My New Marine Tank Log.

you dont need to attach the external air pump to them.

and i agree aquaclear instructions are pretty rubbish!

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the airpump unless you are having issues with PH, otherwise you'll just end up with loads of microbubbles in the aquarium and it just looks messy.

From the picture of the boxes, it looks like they have their own venturi system. Air will be sucked in through the tube that comes out of the water. If you wanted to connect an airpump to them, simply remove the venturi airpipe from the outlet nozzle and replace it with the hose from your airpump.

But what if i submerse them? they wont get air then? do they need air?

The instruction's are Crap, they dont tell you anything, just label the pieces, thats it.

nope they dont need air, both mine aquaclears are fully submerged.

and in the end i gave up on looking at the instructions and just looked at the picture on front :p cause i was just as confused when i first got mine!

they came with a bit that attaches them at the top of with suckers im guessing, i didnt use the bit that attaches them to the top of the tank cus it made it made it hard for me to shut the lid, and i didnt want to cut holes in the lid!

Well if i use the suckers and submerge, then do i not need the pipe bit atall?
Wich attachments should i use, and what does the twisting thing from 1 - 6 control?

And is there certain places i should place my 1 power head sin the tank.

Yup, just submerge them. You don't want the air in there, otherwise your going to have millions of micro bubbles in the water... like I have because of my damn my protein skimmer (yes its on the slowest setting and no I don't know why it still insists doing it) :grr:

The bubbles make the water look dirty, although the stupid damsel fish keeps fanning the coral sand up. I'm gonna peel a potato infront of the glass and see if he gets the message :sly: .

i dunno wether you need the tubing or not but i use the tubing that came with it just in case with the stopper at the end. if you see the "and so it begins..." topic then i think you can see my powerhead set up in on of the pictures. il go check and if not il post a picture of my aquaclear set up so you can see what it needs to look like!

and the twisting thing i beleive changes the output although when i put my finger in front it never seems to make much difference wether its on 1 or 6 !

theres another 1 top right but it hasnt got a long enough plug to go too far down! and im looking at adding another one to increase the flow.

if detritus is allowed to accumulate in a UGF, they become nitrate factories. Painstaking vaccuming is required to properly manage one longterm. People kept reefs quite successfully (especially back in the '70s-90s) with UGFs for filtration, but they also had to maintain them a lot.

Here!...Here!

Dont bother with the venturi connection on the powerheads, but I woulb buy some Hydor Flo's (inexpensive) for flow dispersal.

BigC how much are the hydor flo's ??
i was looking at hydor koralia which is £36 including p&p.
i was going to use that on the left hand side of the tank and the 2 aquaclears on the right ... i only bought the aquaclears because they were £10 for both :p

yeh looks cool, similar postioning to mind and it seems to be working alreet.
