My New Journey To Reef Aquarium

Personally I don't see the issue. Its just an upgrade of lighting. Its not going to affect any corals, you wont need to photo-acclimate fish, so I cant see any dramas. Of course you need to get the initial steps you've already planned out complete, but your on your way, you know what needs to be done, and there is no reason NOT to buy a lighting fixture, especially if its not going to interfere with adding LR or sand. :good:

IMO on the actual lighting unit, it seems good. T5's are better than T8's. More tubes means more light and more customization if you want to change the color, ie. K (kelvin) rating, and it has a fan for cooling, which is even better! :D

my post was a more of a feel bad moment for the fish  , of course there is nothing wrong with him adding a new lighting system :good: .

True... I am waiting to get some money so I can get me argonite and LR first before I do anything. I just like to plan out everything So I know what steps to take..

Thanks guys

do you know what type of corals you want 2 keep? some only like MH... how many watts is that fixture?
Ter

The lighting specs are this : 48" 216 watts 4-54 watt

And as far as corals go.. I will accomadte my setup rather then accomadating types of coral.. But I want easy maintenece to moderate as far as coral care goes.. I dont want to jump in head first.

they sell some nice start packs here and if u can get a better price or already have a site you enjoy... at least it can give you some ideas... i know it has helped me....
Ter

Moderate to easy care would definitely be LPS and softies. This doesn't mean it has to be drab by any means. You have many options with 4 x 54W HO T5's. :good: SPS and clams would be the hard, time consuming corals.

PS, I didnt see any life... also I don't expect what leo77 saw 2 be the norm.

not to bust your bubble or anything but. if its what i think it is that light is not a good choice. i had or have one and it was is nothing but trouble .by the looks of the pic its a current satellite .what i mean by nothing but trouble is. that when salt creep gets on it you will have one bad time trying to pull out the plastic strip to clean it so the light can get through. if you can get it out at all . i had to take mine apart to clean it and then the lunar lights that come on it are white not blue and you cant really see them unless you looking for it . then they dont last to long salt gets in and around them and they stop working .

if you are looking at doing some coral .try the soft coral first. thats just about all i have and my tank looks ok .not the best by far but ok .i also have som lsp cora but not much .here is a pic of what you can do with soft cora and lps coral.
