My Mudskipper Paludarium

Thanks.
I finally got a few halfbeaks to try in this tank. I think they are Nomorhamphus ebrardtiis and are supposed to take brackish water

They were in fresh water at the LFS, so I'll try slow aclimatizing in another tank.

The pic is a bit more yellow-toned than they really are, but I'm looking forward to what they look like once they get into brackish water. It tends to enhance the coloration of fish that are supposed to be in salty water, no?

Another species I decided to add and acclimate while I'm at it, is Hypseleotris compressa

They look like they are a pair, but I'm pretty sure there's two males.

Grooming the Samolus resulted in a huge blooming frenzy

Oh wow, been away for nearly 3 months and had the passing though to catch up on this thread. The result is my jaw dropping further than before. Simply amazing.

Unfortunately the reason for my absence has been due to a housing issue, so i had to close my tanks down, and thus shelved my paludarium idea that i was so set on creating. One day though.

Sorry to hear that, James. Waiting for a better time, then.

I'm too happy with the plant growth in the tank. Have to do something about it.
Even though the Valoya led fixture seems to do the trick, I'm a bit dissatisfied with the color. I'll try metal halides for a change.

I've got two of these 70W HQI shop fixtures laying around:

I cut off the bulb housings

And fixed them into a rack I made

Nothing too fancy.
I might have to get new bulbs to replace the 830s (3000K) later, but I'll see how the color is with these first.
Will rig it in in a couple of days.

Absolutely stunning looking tank, and those skippers look amazing!

You make it look so simple to build, i bet if i tried, it would look like i had chucked a turd at the back wall lol.

Absolutely amazing. Your mudskippers look so happy! Maybe one day....

Any updates hx67?

Theyre so sweet! That's not what I'd call boring to be honest lol. They can't half jump! I don't think I'd ever get anything done if I had these, I could watch them all day.

That video is great! :good:

I loved the bit in the middle where they were staring at each other - like two people chatting over the garden fence!

love that video......they jump!

If I didn't know, I would never guess the video was shot in a home paludarium - just looks so incredibly natural.

This tank is awesome!!

Great work. You need to take pictures and submit this for TOTM and the mudskippers need to be FOTM.

Wow. :good:
