My Goldfish Tailfin Destroyed

I have a goldfish and his tailfin destroyed and i don't know how and why , but one other of my goldfishes died with this problem , and i was wondering how can i remove the problem , is it possible that you guide me , please ?

Hi before we try to sort it out i could really do with knowing a few more things as from your description it could be one of many things.

How big is the tank
how many goldfish you have
what other fish do you have with them
what size filter do you use
how long have you had the tank
do you test the water? (very important)
Is the tank "cycled"
are there any other symptoms like fungal growth on the fins, fish actin differently?
do you have a pic
