My First Adventure In The Salty Side!

Right update time. Due to my LFS overcharging me I had to pop there again today so it gave me a chance to get a couple more bits :hyper: My CUC now consists of:

~ 4 Blue legged hermits (Harry, Hermonie & Henry)
~ 1 Cerith snail (Carl)
~ 1 Turbo snail (Tom)
~ 1 Emerald crab
~ 1 Cleaner Shrimp (Clive)

Also here are some pics of the new corals I picked up. Please excuse the quality of the photos and the algae in the tank

Light Green/Red zoas opened up after only 10 mins.

Blue legged hermit climbing up the silicone in the corner of the tank, he got all the way to the top earlier. Is this normal?

looking good. what are the sps frags? and how are they doing?

Seriatopora Guttatus & Montipora Digitata. They are meant to be two of the easiest sps and I only paid £10 for them 2 and the xenia so I thought I would give them a go. They are settling in nicely.

James

might have to get some of them for my tank :hey:

is that hair algae you got there? well i would pull as much out as you can and the cuc should have a go when its shorter :good:

haha, cool. Yeah it is, it is doing ym head in but my CUC have taken a liking to it. Im hoping it'll all be gone soon, fingers crossed. :look:

Hi James.
What a fantastic set of photos these are going to help me a lot,It sounds like you are in the Norfolk area I live the Dereham area.
I have just set up my first aquarium with stuff bought from Swallows too. What a great shop it is.
We have a great little shop in Dereham which i bought the tank second hand from.
I am very nervous about all this so time will tell if it works okay.
I don't understand this much yet so I'll need all the help I can get, keep posting.
Many thanks
Allan

No worries Seffie, I really need to update this thread, maybe not today though as im laid up in bed ill. Poor me!  All the corals are doing really well, and my hermits and emerald are doing a great job on the hair algae. The cerith is doing a great job at turning over the sand, although the turbo snail seems to have gone missing.

One funny thing that did happen is the biggest hermit changing shell. The empty cerith shell I got? Well hes in there now! It looks massive on him, its funny watching him drag this big shell around!

Right, update time!

Did some tests today, results are:

Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 10
Magnesium: 1400
Calcium: 420
Phosphate: 0 (Get in!)

I finally got my powerheads after waiting ages for it arrive from some dude on ebay. Zoas have been doing well and the shrooms are still growing well. The SPS frags seem to have a little new growth too!

I picked up a plating montipora today too! I know they can get large but it is only small atm and I hope to upgrade in the near future! :kana: Pics will follow soon (when I get a chance, the footy is on!)

Right time for another update!

The plating monti has settled in well, I picked up a pink/purple zoa and 2 common clowns. I know some people say the tank is too small. They are only small and I plan to upgrade my 2ft FW cube to a reef (I got the upgrade bug already!). They settled in well but then I had a problem. They haven't left eachothers side, so cute!

Yesterday I noticed a little white bug on the smaller ones side. It was a clear/white oval type thing, about 5mm, 2 little black eyes and a small red blob in the centre. The red blob looked as though it had sucked blood from the clownfish!

I took the fish out of the water and managed to get this bug/leech type thing off the fish. Now there is a slight red mark where it had been. The fish seems fine but is this anything to be worried about? What could it be? They both seem to be okay now, exploring the tank and are eating.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Some pics of some of the new stuff I bought:
