I've had 4 Juvy Firemouths for 3 months now, and they don't ever swim around the tank. They're either in a cave, next to a rock or under a plant. If you looked at my tank, you wouldn't even know there's fish in there.

It's a ghost town.

What gives?

firemouths are rock dwellers. They hang around their little home, cave, whatever and guard it from intruders. If you want open water fishes then get rainbowfish or barbs.

what size is the tank?
try adding some dithers to make them feel more comfortable to swim around in the open

Well my adult JD usually hangs under his bogwood unless its feeding time or he feels he needs to chase the pleco away. He has done this most all his life... just the way he is I guess. My sevs are always out and swimming around... so idk... figured with the upgrade to the 125 last spring, he would come out more, but he still hides around under log

Ox :good:

as suggested already depending on the size of your tank I can suggest rainbows or barbs, I have both in my 55 Gal FM tank than has helped the FMs want to come out more plus when the FMs are in their caves it at least adds some movement to the tank.
