My Bettas Just Spawned!

I just read this. Can you just crush tropical flakes and put it on a toothpick and stick it in the water? (I didn't do that I'm just asking.)

I suppose you could do that, but they really need meatier, heavier food with more protein to help them grow strong. I'm not sure if they would even eat the flakes. In any case, if you're crushing flake, you dont' need to stick it in with a toothpick. Just crumble it and drop it in. You should really look into getting some brine shrimp eggs as advised. I've seen them at wal mart, I think.

Also I do know quite alot about bettas for your information. and whats wrong with the CORRECT advice I give on here.

Not all the advice you give on here is correct... For example..
"You know all veil tails are already at least a year old and the fry are usually ugly since their from a lfs."

"The last betta I didn't mean that veil tail bettas were ugly I meant the babys would be ugly because they will be all dull colors since they were lfs fish."

"People at big chain stores don't know squat they just hire people that are willing to scoop a fish out of a tank and feed it."

So either all of you stop breathing down my neck or I'll put on my sig that bettas LOVE 1/2g bowls and they don't need but a 50% water change once every 2 weeks. :hey:

Your threats are unnecessary and uncalled for.
It's true at places like petsmart they don't anything about fish at least the one thats by me. Also its true that lfs bettas are already at least a year old because a betta wouldn't sell to most people if it doesn't have any cool colors so they have to wait till they get all their colors before a lfs or lps can sell them.

Durbkat...I was refering to the "the fry are ugly" part. And it's not necessarily true that they are all at least one year old. I've seen young bettas in petstores from time to time.

And just because something is true around your area doesn't mean that it reigns true elsewhere. You simply just can't speak so generally.

I know that you're trying to be helpful, but be careful with the information that you give out...

I mean no harm by this advice. Just trying to help you out before you start to make other people more angry with you or unintentionally give someone bad advice.

DB:If you re-read my post I never said you were incorrect on any count. I just wish you'd give the full advice.

Bettas can be kept in 1/2 bowls with adequate water changes, not 100%everyweek but more like 100% every other day. Not meaning they will all be happy at this.

You could have put, most people at LFS's don't understand about fish, but no it came out they all don't know or care.

I'm merely trying to point out to think how what you are writing comes across to other people. Most of the time you come across short and jumpy. Try a few emoticons they change everything. :)

Were not mean. Were just concerned for people's fish when they don't do any research before they jump into something so big.

Pretty betta~ Try petsmart for baby brine shrimp eggs...they have packages that are pre-mixed with the salt and everything...all you need is a large jar and some type of air like air stones or just some tubing and suction cups....(try synirrs like for hatcheries :) ) Another option...that I dont THINK (not sure) they carry at petsmart but might carry at another Local Fish Store...is Cyclopezes....they are dried shrimp (baby) and I used it for a bit and they eat it...although I would only use that for a short period of time...or get it as a back up food (incase your brine shrimps go wrong some how) since its dried food and can cause damage to the tiny babies...as for the advice given by everyone on here its perfect! :) Keep it up guys its aweasome :) I know someone on here mentioned it at walmart or target they have storage tubs that can hold quite a few gallons that would work as grow outs...A sponge filter would also be a good idea since it will help with water changes (which are EXTREMELY IMPORTANT) Good luck :)

Hey did the eggs hatch yet? Did you take the female out after they breeded? Be sure to take the male out after they are a couple weeks old because he will eat the babys.

I should have gotten them when I got the 10 gallon tank. I'm going to try some microworms for the first week or two then I'll feed them brine shrimp, and if I run out of food I'll put thee tropical flake thing.

Nope not yet. The female and male spawned about 4:00 yesturday and right now its 3:41 at my time. So it maybe any time now. I did take the female out after they spawned (The male was getting mad at her so I took her out.) right now she is in a bowel with some medicine for her fins.

How long has it been since they spawned? I believe that after they hatch and they start coming out of the nest the dad puts them back in. You didn't take the male out did you? Also do you have any gravel or sand in the tank?
