My 48g Fowlr Journey. 13 Months On...

Those are beautiful. Just a question, do any problems arise if you but a black w/ an orange percula? Or do they not care.

I had planned on doing just that. Nobody has ever told me there would be a problem. I only ended up with a black pair because I fell in love with them, still kinda gutted I can't have an orange one :-(

I have never had any probs with racist clowns

LOL Chac :D

If any inverts are eating their own or other molts, go ahead and let them do it, helps them get iodine and other good stuff back in their skeleton. What you saw with the hermit crab was probably a molt. Their molts look a lot like you described :hey:

Ah nice pair of clowns good colouration for black ones. Cos the usual ones are litterally black u cant see anything but white lines on them lol.

Hermit crabs molt?! ohhkay.... thats good news then! :good:

Well, the male does seem to be losing his orange nose, so he may end up completely black and white. :D The female's orange is stronger so doubt she'll lose it, and also, she has a gap in one of her stripes... poor thing... imperfection is such a burden

Okay, so... we have thousands of white 'bugs' on the glass and free-swimming, they are making me itch! LOL I figure they are copepods or similar, but damn there are alot of them! The fish seem to be getting irritated by them... might this be the case? How do I control them? Also tiny green hairs on the glass, not in clumps, just on their own... algae? Do I need to add more clean up crew?

In other news, we spotted aiptasia, but the next day it was gone - assuming one of the peppermint shrimps got it, but I'll keep my eyes peeled. There are a couple of bubbles back, Ski, do I need to remove the rock and do the dipping again? I am hoping the emerald crab may take care of it, but so far he isn't bothering.

We spotted an orange crab who is very similar to the emerald crab, just not green... and a couple of brown speckly crabs too, don't seem to be doing anything wrong so far... I plan on keeping an eye on them. Also spotted a couple of bloody huge bristle worms, and 2 peppermint snails (I think). Everything seems to be coming to life, the shrimps are always out and about and the clowns play with the cleaner shrimp, swimming in and out of his little 'feelers' but not letting him 'clean' them! LOL

We did a 10% water change on wednesday, and all the levels are doing good. PH is up to 8.2 so I'm happy about that. We are hoping to add an orange firefish this weekend... but we might not have time, being christmas and all!

Yeah I try to not add too much livestock over the christmas holidays, tough to get support for it sometimes if anything goes wrong ;)

If you have bubbles back, I'd do the double bucket dip thing again. You may have to do it a few more times as bubble algae is pretty persistent. For your glass, you need a magnetic glass scraper or a metal rod type. If you do get a magnetic one, get one that floats so that when it falls off it doesnt land on your prized corals, fish, etc ;).

Thanks Mike :good: I think I will check when the LFS is opening over christmas, I think they will only be closed on the main days, but I'll definitly give it some thought :) Any advice on this?

Were you referring to the green hair when you were talking about a magnet? I was thinking I am probably short on snails.. I have 9 in total, but there is only ever one turbo snail on the glass...

Yeah, even with a TON of snails, you'll still get buildup on the glass. Gotta have a scraper to clean it eventually.

Btw, wth are you still doing awake?

I was trying to stay awake while I was waiting for hubby to come home from work. :)

So, umm... could the copepods be irritating the fish?
