Musho3210's Reef Log

ok no peppermint, no scarlet skunk, no pistol, i'll get a sexy shrimp.

ok, i was on vacation for 10 days without anyone to watch the tank.

To my surprise i came back to a tank that looked exactly the same as i left it, except skimmer had a bit more skimmate and my mushroom coral got bigger, my SG rose from 24 to 26 even with glass top but everything seemed fine. Over a 10 day period a jump like that shouldnt be that bad.

Same couldnt be said about freshwater but nothing to do with saltwater.....

i might be able to get cheap healthy clowns now....

Do you think i can add fish sometime around august 15th? It would have been a month since the initial set-up (live rock and water) and 3 weeks since the end of the cycle and 2 weeks since the addition of the CUC.

I put in my old broken top fin filter, modded the end a bit, then put my mj 600 on there so its not broken anymore and put my phosban in there, i might put a small light over it and get some cheato but that is undecided.

Yep if your water parameters are correct and have been staying correct you should be able to add a fish.

ok, i'll get fish soon then, im leaving for another vacation tomorrow to minneapolis so after the trip i will get fish.

Ok an update, and a good update this time

I got 3 things today

Chaeto
2 ocellarius Clownfish (they look more like perculas....)
and 2 elephant ear or elephant skin, i'll try and get the scientific name he gave me, coral frags. There sps for sure though, not mushrooms.

All for 30 dollars

Before i get flamed, bashed, yelled at, whatever for adding an sps coral too soon, i got the frags for free, i didnt ask specifically for them, and his wasnt doing so well so he let me try it out and see if it does any better in my tank, which i doubt though, but its worth a try. I mean its free....

EDIT: He said the coral was either: Pachyseris rugosa or pachyseris speciosa

yes i will get pictures up asap, there just in a bucket now with a silicone tube dripping water on them, doesnt seem that interesting.... But if you really want a picture of that i can put one up....

They look very very nice, dont look like ocellarius.... they look more like perculas since they are a deeper orange. When i first saw them without a good look i thought they were demented looking marrons.....

ok good and bad news

bad news:

Aclimating container got a leak, water spilt everywhere, in my room, on my carpet....

Good news: found the leak early, fish are perfectly fine, in my tank now, they are (no surprise) hiding. And to my luck, the leak happened within the second hour of acclimating so they got about an hour and 45 minutes of acclimation.

Coral, its slightly bleached on one end, this is the smaller frag.

All params are at 0 except nitrate which is at 5, i dont worry about it, chaeto may bring it down

I bought some zoas watch them open (they were fully open within an hour of being in the tank), i got these for 20 dollars:

They came from a T5 HO tank. The rock carried a few copepods and mysid shrimp. I have 4 layers of flyscreen on the top of my tank and the coral is at the very bottom.
