My fiances mudskipper bit me, and I'm wondering if it's poisonous? I have a nasty cold anyway but I got bit last night, and today I've feeling really sick. It only scratched through the top layer of skin on my finger, but I wondered if they were related...

OMG you're gonna die!!

 only joking, as far as i am aware mudskippers don't have a venomous bite.

Holy foccacia! I thought you were serious then... ok, only for a nano second.
I know nothing about these fish so when someone with your level of knowledge says something like that, i tend to take it in... doh!

It was quite a shock as my fiance was like, they don't have teeth they are just like a horse. I had a snail from another tank and put it on my finger. Just the mudskipper was a bit overzealous and grabbed my finger too!

As CFC says, you should be fine. However, if the fish drew blood, you should certainly telephone your GP and ask what he/she thinks.

Animal bites -- even if not venomous -- can allow bacteria into the wound. For most people, their immune system will handle this without problems, but if for some reason your immune system is reduced, then things get more complicated.

Cheers, Neale

ROFL
hey I was gonna say that :)

You will be fine. I have been bitten by them a number of times and I'm still kicking. Well almost, I do have a bad heart and my lungs are stuffed, and I have arthritis in my back and my left eye goes all wobbly. . . .

They aren't poisonous and there is nothing going to happen to you from it.

If you want to see something funny take it out of the tank and let it hop around the floor. They move like frogs and are really hard to catch. I had to chase one around the shop once. I was getting it for a customer and it hopped out of the tank and took off across the floor. The little buggar was quick and the customers were wetting themselves laughing coz I was getting the run around from a little 4inch mudskipper.

When i kept them one managed to escape from the tank and as my fishroom at the time was the garage it made it under the garage door and out into the street, it had got 4 doors down the road when i found it. Unfortunately it didnt survive its trip and died over night :(

well yes you are most definetly going to die a slow and painful death. I researched it all night and said 10 people die every year from it. sorry man i love and i hate to have to do this.

I've just re-read this and am now very confused... after reading the first bit of your post and then the last few words in it, are you asking if your mudskipper & fiance are related????  :D

Sorry so I'm not the best at the english even though it is my first language! I'd also like to thank all the jokers that had my heart pounding just that little bit faster for a few seconds :hyper: No it didn't bleed, just scratched like a paper cut.

And yes we have chased him around the room. He had this habit of just jumping up onto the rim of the tank, my fiance Dean, went to get some food for him... Yeah the mudskipper took his opportunity and started skipping around the room. He's managed to escape all of around 5 times in a week!

He's a dear little thing, loves interaction! We've created several areas out of the tank for him to sit but are at either end of the tank and you can already train him to come to the other end by just offering food. He hides well too, I come up to the glass and no quicker have I thought where the devil is he and he is like nose on glass just looking back at you.

he's just watching and waiting for you to stick your hand back in so he can bite it off :)

They're great little characters aren't they? I hand feed my Mudskipper and he's learnt to get the food gently and never uses his teeth. He even demands for food by sitting at the front of the tank and flapping his tail.

4 doors down? That's nuts!

He has an absolutely amazing character. When setting up the new tank the other day it was filled halfway abd we let him go in first by himself for a day. He was doing laps and walking along the bottom, having a swim. Now the other fish are in he doesn't swim at the bottom. Really highlights the fact these guys need their own tank.

With the new tank there are two flaps, one above his island and one not. To feed the other fish we can just open this flap now. So less escapism!
