Hi everyone, i've sorta inherited a full set up 3 foot tank plus fish off a family member who is going overseas to work. now would it be possible if i got some of the large plastic tubs with lids, if i made sure these where clean ( what would i use ) ( milton ??? ) to transport the fish, mainly tetra's, platys, cory's and some others, and use another tub to transport the rest of the water then refil the tank at mine, im thinking this should not take more than 45 mins max from start to finish and hopefully the water temp will not drop too much. any help or ideas will be gratefully recived, thanks in advance

The tubs would be fine, just rinse them well in hot water first and make sure they havent had any chemicals in them.

I would worry too much about the water, just the water you need to transport the fish should be fine.

Just make sure that the temperature is roughly the same as the water they are in before adding them. Remeber to dechlorinated the water first. This will end up being like a very large water change for the fish.

The main thing to worry about is keeping the filter media wet, if this is an external filter then its quite easy, just dont empty too much water out of it, if its an internal filter, unplug it and keep it in the water that the fish are being transported in (with the plugs in the water obviously).

thank you minx for the quick reply, the plastic tubs are going to be bought brand new to do this, i was going to use the same water, just pour it back in, would it be best to bag the fish and float in the tank like you do with a new fish ? i have keep fish in the past just never moved a setup like this, hopefully it wont take long as we live pretty close but best laid plans and all that

You could bag them if you want to, depends do you know your tap water ph and that of the ph they are coming from? If its wildly different then you would need to acclimatise them slowly, but it would be just as easy to add some of the new water to the tub and remove the water they are in over a period of time, them to bag them and do it that way.
