They don't change gender. Some males are late developers and look like females for a long time, and very old females can take on male characteristics, but they don't actually change sex.

I've got a "gender confused" black phantom tetra. She clearly has the red finnage of a female, but her behaviour is like that of the males - being territorial and having "fin-offs" with the guys. Her body is also noticeably darker than the other females who have a slightly ruddy hue to the body. It doesn't help that my daughter has named her Mr Froggy.

Lol.
It's been happening to one of my swordie females. The lyretail was acting like a male yesterday, but I am sure she's female, as she gave birth like 2 weeks ago. She was trying to mate with my blood-red female swordie. o_O

Most boring fish... Ive had is... The neon tetra. They are so boring, they dont school unless they are kept in big groups,.

I've had them. And while I did like their shiny band and red blot under the tail, I wouldn't risk keeping them again and losing them. They somehow survived a tank with no filter from autumn till the next summer, with only weekly water changes though. o_O
But nowadays I'm just not interested in them.

My wife has made a blanket rule that we're not allowed to have neons because they are the "default" tropical fish and represent a lack of imagination in deciding what to keep. Much like the yellow labrador is the default dog! She has also banned guppies, but then I sense a lot of hate for guppies in this thread! :hey:

LOL! I avoided Neons for for like 45 years. Finally bought a small shoal of them a year and a half ago. They're almost my favorite fish. I also like Yellow Labs as hunting dogs. :good:

I used to think guppies were awesome but now I honestly cannot stand them. I had a really bad experience with them. I was doing livebearers when I started and I had a 40g hex with platys and swordtails (i had about 9 female platys/swords, and 3 male swords. I decided to add some brihgt colors to the setup but adding a group of guppies. So I bought 4 females and 2 males. These guppies were like the mafia!!! They took over the tank. They rolled around in a group intimidating all the other fish. I watched the group of guppies block on of my male swordtails into a corner. They were evil! It wasn't till i started seeing chucks of fins missing that I removed the guppies and took them back to the LFS. Had them for about 4 days.

My guppies were always calm, I loved seeing them display to the females too, they weren't even bothering the females like they normally should. All they did was wave their tails in front of them and if they got ignored, they just shrugged it off.
But my 4-betta pack were like wolves. Ganged up on the guppies and kept biting their tails and heads.

i recently bought a betta, although very pretty, he dosnt do anything, i begining to think hes the most boring

Once he gets settled, he'll be watching you like a hawk. I've heard that they even play with ping-pong balls if you put one afloat.

My vote for most disappointing fish (not least favorite, mind you) is dwarf gourami. I think it was 8 that I bought at different times, all to have them succumb to dwarf gourami disease. It was absolutely heartbreaking to watch them go through that terrible disease, and me knowing that there is no cure. They're beautiful and interactive fish that I would love to have again, but I don't want to even try unless I can find someone locally who has raised them from the start.

Well, at least it can be prevented (I think nothing can survive a wash with hot boiled water and possibly bleach, but that requires having a tank started from scratch...)

The DG disease.
Although you can never know if the gourami comes with it from the shop... in which case cleaning the tank will be useless...
