hiya all
well once again my albino corys have spawned with no help from me. but i did cheat this time & put my female & 3 males in the 12 gallon tank, they did spawn last week but there was only a few eggs so knowing what they like i just left the corys in there & they did it again this morning. my 8 & 9 year old lads were facinated by it, anyway i have now moved the corys out & left the eggs in there with a filter flowing over the top of them till i get get another air pump.
so wish me luck with them this time round :hyper: :D :hey:

Hi trace1 :)

Congratulations! I just knew things would work out right for you.

I hope you keep us up to date on the events to come. :D

thanks inchworm & barracuda
i'm all excited now can't wait till they hatch, i'm hoping that i can learn a lot from this batch then i can hopefully get the pandas & swartzii's 2 breed as well.
just wating for the microworm culture to come that i ordered of ebay but i do have some liquid fry in as well for them till that starts to produce for me so think i'm all ready now :D

1 question thou. do i do any water changes before the eggs hatch, there is still some sand in the bottom of the tank

microworm culture just arrived so is now set up, just hope i've done it right lol :D

Hi trace1 :)

I'm sure your microworms will do well. It will take a few weeks before they are going well enough to feed your fry, and in the meanwhile you will be wondering where they are, but eventually they will flourish.

Your fry will love them, but will eat the LiquiFry until then. If it takes too long, you could even start them on flake food at a fairly early age.

If you can manage to get the sand out without disturbing the eggs, it's well worth the trouble. The fry are tiny and it's so much easier to keep the bottom clean if it is bare. I raise the level of the water as high as possible and scoop out as much sand or gravel as I can. Then, refilling it as necessary to keep the eggs submerged, use the siphon hose to vacuum out the rest. I can get it all out this way if I first start the siphon and then, while it's underwater, remove the big end. The hose without the nozzle has all the suction contained in a small area and is a powerful vacuum. Keeping the bucket as low as possible helps too. :D

thanks for that inchworm, as it is it will be easy to get the sand out without the eggs coming out of the water cos the corys laid them on the heater so i can just push it down.
just really hope they hatch this time, i've had so many lots of eggs now but never manged to keep them on their own b4 so they usually eaten, but hopin cos they in the 12 gal tank with nothing else i've got a good chance this time :hey: :D

Im sure you will have some good fry, especially if you were able to get them by themselves. One thing about the microworm culture. I started one about 2 weeks ago and it took all of that time for them to start showing up. Once they did show up, I had tons of them. So, if you dont see anything in the first week or so, just give it some time. I used that liquid fry stuff for 2 days or so. I dont like using that stuff because its so hard to clean up. I started them on flake food as soon as they would eat it. I have since been feeding them microworms and they are eating them up. Next batch I get will get the microworms much earlier. As Inchworm has said many times, daily partial water changes are a must. My fry like to play in the new water as I put it into the tank. Keep us updated

thanks barracuda, can't wait for thurs/fri now to see if they hatch. should be fun over xmas thou cos their tank is in the only place i have left for the xmas tree so can see them going up in my bedroom in a couple of weeks so kinda glad its only a smallish tank.
will keep you updated on the progress thou

Hi trace1 :)

Watch out for moving tanks to the bedroom. Once it's there it will be much harder to bring back, and then there will be an empty place where the Christmas tree was. That sounds like a good reason to get another tank!

MTS strikes again!!!! :hyper:

now that sounds like a good plan, hubby just read it & went white thou & sat here shaking his head at me lol.
althou if i want the pandas & swartziis to breed they will need their own tanks :hey: :hey:

Good luck with these eggs tracy, and remember some pictures when they hatch! :) I have just setup my new 180L tank, and intend to have a breeding group of 6-8 Corys (Preferably C. Aenues). ;)

Hi trace1 :)

I think you are right about that. I had my pandas in a 29 gallon tank with only the C. pygmaeus as tankmates. They spawned regularly.

Then, because I had the extra room in there I added C. guapores and C. caudimaculatus. They got along well, and they even schooled with them, but they stopped spawning.

I am rearranging my tanks now and the pandas are in a 20 gallon Long, with the C. pygmaeus. I'm just guessing, but I think they will start spawning again. I'll post a thread if they do. :D
