Two days ago I accidentally overfed my bettas, they were so huge like balloons. Anyway today all 3 were fine, acting normal, but the white one's stomach was like a triangle:s I think there may have been a rupture or something, and I've just found her dead :( but my other betta is completely fine.
But the dark betta, she looked fine and was acting fine, but I haven't seen her since around 2pm today? I've looked countless times for her today, moved rocks and decorations around, but no sign! At the bottom of my tank I have ceramic media that I added, I'm scared she may be lying dead inbetween them, but can't find her! I don't have a clean up crew that might have eaten the body either, what if I can never find her? What will happen to my tank? She's fairly small, will it affect the tank too much? Should I get some shrimp incase something like this happens again?

No because it shouldn't happen again if your careful and an educated betta keeper. (Trust me I have 8). What kind of filter do you have or do you have a filter?

And no it won't affect your tank. So don't worry about that.

Check around the ceramic media. Do a good water change and substrate vacuum. I've misplaced a few fish as well, but I haven't seen them in weeks so they're assumed dead. If possible, move the other fish out, remove most of the water, and see if you can't find the fish between the ceramics. If she's not in there, check your filter intake.

What size tank is this? What filtration are you running or is it all based off the ceramic rings? Because you over fed, you'll want to fast the remaining fish for a few days, especially considering there has been one death (possibly a second).

These bettas are in my biube, so they have a biorb like filter. I've never overfed before, but the brineshrimp slid out of my fingers because it was slimy, and boom it was gone before I could run down to get a net to fish it out.
I was planning on redecorating the tank today, so when I'm doing that after I've taken everything out it will be easier to look for her hopefully.

Do any of you think its a good idea to get a small cleanup crew, incase something like this happens again and I can't find the dead fish or to eat up some of the leftover food that I can't get to in the ceramic media? Like shrimps etc?

Depending on the size of your tank and the temperament of your fish, a small colony of snails should be fine.

well i found the dead betta today :( she was between the ceramic media

That's unfortunate. At least you found her though and were therefore able to get her out before she began to foul the water. Hopefully you won't lose any other fish like that. :/

sorry to hear about your betta :(.  As for dead fish affecting water, in some cases it won't make a difference while others it could harm other fish in the tank.  If it's a small tank as i'm assuming if you just left it in there it would raise the ammonia, potentially killing other fish.  If it's a large aquarium with say a large school of fish and one died it wouldn't make a difference at all.

I have bettas too. You can look at my fish blog. www.iheartfishes.blogspot.com

This is true. This tank was home to three betta fish, though, with no clean up crew, so it was more likely that the water quality would be more easily affected.

Very sorry to hear this! ): :rip: betta.
I'm not an expert on things such as what effects water, so I'll leave that to the experts.
