Well i went and purchased 3 male dalmation mollies yesterday to go into my 180 litre vision, today, after admiring my fish in there, i could only see 2 of them, so i left it a while, then checked again, still only 2 :/ so i moved my bogwood, to see if it was hiding, and it wasnt there  after looking everywhere in the tank, i decided to check the filter, which is the built in version, that comes with the juwel vision, anyway, there it was floating on the top, and im sad to say, it was dead :rip: , after inspecting the filter, there is only a little gap either side of the top, so it appears it must have somehow jumped in there :-( Has this happend to anyone else?? Is there anything to prevent it??

It happens quite a lot with the Juwel Filters it seems. I had 2 Bettas that even lived right down the bottom bits  they were fine but I'm sure it was dark and lonely until I discovered them a day later. I checked the filter but couldn't even see them on top. And then a few hours later I checked again and I saw a little mouth coming up from below.

You should make sure the top lid is secure and you could also stick a bit of sponge round the edges of the filter outlet pipe (where there is sometimes a small gap).

hi claire
this also happened with my juwel filter only i found 4 fish in it, 2 clown loaches 1 molly fry & 1 cory but i was lucky as mine were ok. infact the molly fry was bigger than the other 1 thats in the tank lol.
i solved the problem by taking the juwel filter out & just using the fluvel 3+ in the tank. its the 125litre tank. i've gota say thou my filter housing was loose when i got the tank so i never stuck it back on the glass so don't know if this makes a difference.
sorry bout your molly thou :-(

Thanx alot guys...

I think i will stuff a piece of foam into the holes, i dont have any fish big enough to fit into the gap where the pipe actually comes out, but the lid part i do, so i will have to sort this out... !!

Belive it or not i,ve had one of my discus jump ontop of the filter in my rio 300.

It was lucky realy, i only found out about it because my stepson and his friend where in the room at the time.

Yup, i've had a zebra danio, and a amino plant shrimp in the top of the filter. Reason it happened is i filled the tank over the max line, and the water went over the very top of the filter, and the lid of the filter came loose and the fish/shrimp went into it. Only happened for 2 hours when i realised i couldnt see either of them.

I leave the top of my rio 400 filter as i have found a couple of crispy hatchet fish on top. Now i count them every morning and net them out if they are in the filter. My black khuli loaches live inside the filter and come out of the hole near the outlet at feeding time, my chain loaches occasionally go inside and need netting out.

I had this happen to one of my clown loaches, but i went to a fluval system afterwards.
Also, I know now that i shouldn't fill my tank right to the top, lost 3 hatchet fish that way.

This happened to me and one of my neon tetra's died shortly after. I emailed the Jewel people to see what they suggest and there was responce was just...yeah its happens..sorry. Seems a silly design for a fish tank.

My beautiful black, and gold angel fish, managed to get stuck in one of the inlets for my jewel filter!! I managed to get it out, but it was looking really poorly. It died 10 mins later. :rip:

Its happened to me, only ive often found live fry swimming around in there quite happily.

Well I don't have a jewel tank with the jewel filter but I do use whisper power filters on my tanks which are made by a company called all glass aqauriums and my common pleco can climb up the output of the filter and sit there until I lift the lid so he can go back into the tank. So now I have to leave the lid off the filter because you never know when he will decide to climb up it.

I had 2 clown loaches that used to be able to fit behind my filter. i now have a crab which lives in the filter, whenever i remove it it climes up the heater and straight back in, it also likes to bask on top. im sure it lives there cos thats where all the best scraps end up.
