Hi,
Meet my new beautiful veil tail Betta. :D
Brought just yesterday, and having a really good time in his 8 gallon tank.
I have just brought a new fish today, it's a dwarf guarami.
I will be putting in three emerald Cory Doras' when I find some pretty enough.
Not sure about what else after that.

It was instantly cycled by my hubbie, and it looks quite good.

Cheers, Xan

He's gorgeous isn't he? But since putting in the dwarf he's going off the show, being very aggressive. I haven't had a betta with so much aggression in him! I'm not sure what to do now... I thought of putting him in the big tank with the big fishies (See Katchan's signature) or putting him into a lonesome tank of the Betta variety, which really is sad because I think they are too small for long periods..
What do you think?

It's late and I'm sick...I could have sworn the title said "The purple murderer"
He's lovely

I don't know who katchan is and I'm too lazy to search, how big are the big fishies? Cichlids?

The big fishies in order of bigness are:
A fully grown Angel,
Two Blue Guaramis
a medium gold Angel,
Two Red tail black sharks (a very big tank they don't bother each other or others),
A BN catfish,
A big pregnant sword tail
A lyre tail sword tail
another male swordie

Except for the medium Angel, they are all very harmonious really!

UPDATE my Purple Maruader has been put in time out because he has bitten a chunk out of my dwarf  Naughty Boy! I guess it's not easy to have harmony in all tanks straight off. My hubbies very peaceful Betta is in my 8 gallon wit the dwarf, very happily ignoring each other and nibbling happily on the meal given them. actually the dwarf seems to be starving! New today...

Cheers, Xan :p

I love his colours

Glad to hear at least the other betta is getting on ok with the dwarf :)

Hi,

im no expert, but as far as i know, your not meant to keep bettas with gouramis, or angels ?

this may be one of the reasons they didnt get along, although youve got another tank that has a betta and a gourami, all bettas are different, some can be really placid, and others, well, you put 1 foot out of line and they wont stand for anything. lol

my suggestion would be to try him on his own, as lonely as it seems, im sure he would be happier, than having to fight for his teritory with the gourami.

let us know how it goes.

Edit: Hes a stunningly coloured betta, he looks almost identical to my first betta!

Unfortunately that didn't work out either! :hyper:

So know I've got a baby BN catfish and a very baby Angel.

I'll see how they get along now.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm looking at getting some Betta girlies and some peaceful bettas tommorrow.

Bettas aren't peaceful, when other fish are involved.

Hopefully you aren't getting girl bettas to try and put in with a boy  .

And you can't instantly cycle a tank.

You're fish is very pretty though, but he needs his own tank imo, or you're gonna have more tails with missing chunks, or dead fish.

i think that the purple marauder will be much happier on his own. bettas and gouramis shouldn't be kept together, they see each other as competition

My personal feeling on the whole thing is that male bettas always deserve their own tanks. I do know there are cases where they are in big tanks and it's worked out, and those folks are lucky they've got peaceful fish (both betta and otherwise)...

BUT... I just think that each guy deserves to have his own turf. They can't tell you if they like being with other fish, so just because they're not attacking them or being attacked doesn't necessarily mean they are enjoying being with other fish either.

I think you're right about the purple marauder, he's on his own in a Betta tank until I can get him something a little bigger and more interesting. My Angel and Dwarf are still together and are getting along OK, there is a baby BN catfish in there too but they aren't interacting with each other at all, as is their natures I believe. I'm sad they can't all be as peaceful as others... and play well together. However, my hubbies Betta is acting very happy in the big tank, he blows bubble nests and gets on the water slide. He never seems stressed at all. In fact he shows more stress when he's all alone. There is exceptions to every rule, and he's definately one.

I wouldn't put female Bettas and males together unless I was trying to breed them, and not for a long time anyway. And not with the purple marauder either, as he is definately a fin nipper and I wouldn't like to see that into the next generation. I do think a more peaceful temperament could be bred into the fighter, though, just with very careful breeding and experience, which I don't have yet, I'll wait for some years of fishkeeping experience first ;)

Any ways that's the story...

he's so pretty! he looks a lot like my calico. this is a photo of him before he jumped the divider in his tank & got into a fight with bb & they tore the crap out of each other's fins.

I do see the similarities between Calico and the Purple Maruader. This might sound ignorant but are they called calico as a type of Betta? Like with cats you get get tortoise shell?
