Meet My New Horses!

Strangles, horrible it is. The livery I was one with around 30 horses had strangles. Some nasty sights the state some of the horses get, luckily mine wasn't affected too bad :)

This was my girl Sally, 14.3hh. Id had her a few weeks in this picture. I previously had her mam Sparky on loan, she was a 12.2hh little chestnut.
A 16.3hh throughbred got in to the field with Sparky and out popped Sally ( this was before I got any of them)

Thankfully I've never had a run in with strangles. It sucks from what I've heard.
I hope they test negative on the Coggins test,.. Otherwise they'll be euthanized..
She's a beauty! So lovely!

I got devastating news everyone... Test results came back positive... They're going to be euthanized tomorrow morning... I'm going to be there for them and holding their leads so they don't get scared at least...

Oh no, what awful news, you must be so upset.
I'm so sorry

It was horrifying, but it was relatively peaceful for them, I got there early enough to spend a long time grooming and spoiling and loving on them. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do, and to go through it twice in a morning is hell...

I'm so sorry! They were beautiful horses and I am sorry for your loss. They are surely in a better place now <3
I am selling my gelding, Infinity, soon. He is a blue roan, and I just know I will miss him like crazy. I'm looking for a more advanced horse I can rodeo on. I hope you can find another horse, and am sorry for your loss.

Well, I've handled the grief of losing them, and, I think I'm ready to get a horse again. I decided I like Stamped With Style from that breeder. Here's what the breeder says about her:

"Stamped With Style will test you a bit more, but probably be a better performer in the long run. She was very quick to understand her first and second halter breaking lessons. I'd guess her to be the prettier of the two [that i was considering] when she's done maturing. Her dam is also a faster mare as far as what I've seen in my broodmare herd. Her dam is all about getting it done fast! She was raised in the mountains above our ranch from July to October so she has seen it all as far as rough terrain. Timber to canyons and lots of sage brush, and a good bit of predators too. Her dam and sire have never had to be shooed as they have nice thick feet. Her sire's trot is a bit springy, but had a long ground covering stride. Better to post than sit to for sure, but not so rough that you didn't want to ride him. Her dam runs very smoothly just from looking at her run in with the mares from the hills and mountain pastures. She reminds me of of those chariot horses, a flat looking, ground covering trot."

As of last month, she was already 13.2 hh. So, she'll probably mature tall!

hmmm that doesn't read like someone who knows a lot about horses, but maybe that's just me.

I do have a bit of an issue with her not knowing the dam very much (she never rode her...) and only bringing her in to breed and foal, then let loose for summer and foals are brought in, mares are pregnant already, and cycle repeats.... And she didn't know about HERDA being in the bloodline, but, I like the look of this horse, and I know a person I trust who personally met her and she seems right for me

Sounds like fun! You haven't been around lately misssmarie.

She is pretty but since you're just starting out wouldn't you be better getting an older horse who has already been trained? When you're breaking in a young horse it takes a lot of time and because you live a little ways away and maybe have school too...don't get me wrong I see why you want to train your own horse, I was there once too but it can easily go wrong and is better left to the professionals in my opinion. I hope I don't sound like I'm being grumpy with you!

On the breaking in thing, I have helped my aunt break in a few foals/yearlings, I'm going to get a professional trainer, and my aunt will help me when I need it. I do perfectly understand, and I know the saying is green + green = black and blue, but, I'm thinking green + experience + trainer = just blue (ribbons that is....)

I know, sorry I haven't been around much lately. Been having a hard time, it was just my boyfriends birthday and our anniversary and he died in December, and then I lost the horses, and well, I went through a very rough patch.
