Marineland Jester Costume!

What if the hat was attached to the costume like a hoody? Then your hair could be stuffed down into the back and you could have a hat. It would stay attached to you atleast when you fell in the water. Wouldn't have to worry about a killer whale choking on a hat.

I don't work with the killer whales :p Though the image of one choking on a jester hat was slightly comical when ignoring the injury factor.

I was sent on a makeup shopping trip today.. I have a thing of oil based 'clown white' that doesn't come off in water, a black stick and red cream, but both are water based. :/ I'm pretty sure that I need oil-based, but Gary specifically wrote down 'water based' next to the red cream. Eugh. I'm bringing it in tomorrow to see what they want to do with it.

I got a wetsuit and a rashguard [a shirt to go under it] today as well. Yay! Ironically enough, my wetsuit has killer whales printed on the chest, the damned famous whales that I don't work with!

That costuem turned out wonderfully! The drawings didn't do them justice. You look fabulous in it too! Woud a hat be okay if you attached an elastic band to it that would go under your chin? WOuld that stay on well enough?

I absoluetely LOVE the third picture. You should make that your icon picture.  You're costume looks wonderful! I am very jealous. :p Can't wait to see more pictures.

I have this glittery make-up..it doesn't come off that easily in water. I don't remember what it is called though. I'll try to find it tomorrow. It's like a thick stick of eyeliner, but it is creamy glitter instead.

They insisted on clown makeup. I haven't been able to talk them out of it yet, but I'm going to play with it tomorrow before the show to get it just right. I grabbed some waterproof stuff at WalMart this morning, so I've got an entire makeup case ready and raring to go tomorrow. I'm thinking the white face, blue eyeshadow and eyeliner with black mascara, POSSIBLY some blush on my cheeks [though last time I tried that it didn't go so well :/] and then red lips. I'm terrible with red lipstick though, it looks so horrible with the white cream as a background, like I can't draw the edges of my lips!

pnyklr3, I don't think the hat's such a good idea.. my water shoes barely stay on when I fall in the tank, I don't think that a hat would stay on! I might make one out of scraps and try it one day, but I don't know if it'd be a permanent thing or not.

Blagh, I'm tempted to make the silly face picture into an avatar, but I don't know where I'm going to find the time. I've got a 12 day work week right now, from the 18th straight until the 29th. My first day off is the 30th because I'm still the only jester and there's no one to cover my days off. That's why I haven't gotten to any graphics requests lately. I'd do them tonight but Chris is driving up to see me before I get sucked into staying late at work since the park opens tomorrow, so I'll do my best to do them all tomorrow night.

Gawd, I'm so paranoid. The park opens TOMORROW MORNING! I start the show at 11:30, when the crowd comes in to grab their seats, so I'm really nervous..

Hey, I have an idea.. if I can get my grandparents into the park, and my grandfather brings his digital video camera, he can record my entire routine [It's half an hour!] and then if I can find someone to host it, I could possibly upload the highlights of it.. like me hassling guests, tripping over stuff onstage, falling into the pool.. It'd be maybe 5 minutes tops, but if anyone would be interested in checking out the act I can see if he'd be willing to do that.. it's an excuse for him to use his photo editing training! :)

Blagh, must go get ready now because Chris will be here shortly.. and I still smell kinda like the fish house!

 I'll mention it to him, but he'd have to pay to get into the park while I'm working, and admission is roughly $40. He can't just pay to come see the show, so I'm trying to work something out with my boss. They tape the show every year with this ancient gigantic video camera, and I was going to suggest asking my grandpa to do it with the digital video camera. He'd love doing it, he just doesn't want to be forced to pay the admission fee when all he wants to do is watch one stadium show. Easy way to get in free, do a favour for the park, and then show the video to family and friends so they don't have to pay the admission fee either.
Brilliant plan.. :) I'll mention it to Nick [boss] once we've got a couple of shows under our belts, and he feels we're ready to tape it.

Be sure to tell us all about it as soon as you get back!

I'll bet that he wanted the red bit to be water based so you would look extra sad when you got wet.

 you kinda brushed off my hoody idea. Sorry if I offended you with the choking whale image, I'm trying to prevent that kind of thing. If you really want to wear a hat I don't think an elastic band is gonna keep it on you. ( Not trying to bash anybodies ideas I just don''t think it'll stay on her head) If it were attached to your costume you wouldn't have to worry about it. hmmm maybe a combination. What if you had the hat attached to the back of the costume like a hoody then you had a piece of elastic in a swimsuit cloth sleave for comfort under your chin, attached to the hat?

I didn't mean to brush it off, Torrean! I honestly did think it was funny, if you pretend that the whale wouldn't get hurt. I was picturing Athena, one of the younger killer whales, with the old jester hat in her mouth. I thought it looked funny.
The back of the costume is pretty low, it's a square cutout, so no hat would attach to it without completely altering the pattern. That, and I think the trainers like the pigtails idea.

Puffer, if you want to make it into an avatar, go nuts. Totally up to you.

Okay. SO. This is how the first day went.

Show #1 -- I did the planned routine, but the dolphins were left in the tank so I couldn't go in to do my basketball rescue routine, because I'm not allowed in with the animals unsupervised, and I'm the only one on stage during my show. I ended up playing with the basketball for 5 minutes because I was running out of time.

Show #2 -- Nic, my boss, had Gary, one of the trainers, jester this show. He'd done it last year, so he did it to give me a better idea of how to act. Gary = absolutely hilarious jester. I love him, he's great.

Show #3 -- Did a lot of the routine Gary showed me, I even got a father and son out of the audience to help with the clapping games. It was great, they each directed a side of the stadium and I helped out from stage, complete with 'accidental' tripping and falling in the water near the edge.

Show #4 -- They FINALLY put the dolphins in the ready pools on the side, so the main tank was empty and I could go in. I did my regular routine, some more clapping games, and then accidentally knocked the basketball into the pool. So I made a running leap for the slide, went into the pool, and nudged the basketball out using my forehead like a sea lion. It was pretty funny. When I got back to the stage I collapsed, breathing really heavily, and the crowd was laughing a lot. I dove back into the pool, up to the splash zone, and did more clapping games. Then I ran off when the show started, and got a lot of applause. Best show of the day.

Show #5 -- There were maybe 35 people TOTAL in the entire stadium, which seats 3000-5000. I did like, nothing  I just went out and set the stage, juggled some rings a bit, and that was it. When I left they cheered a lot. I couldn't tell if it was cos I was entertaining or because I was leaving! :p

And then I took off the makeup, changed, and clocked out. While waiting to go home, I was talking to this guy who had worked the show all day that I'd talked to earlier while welcoming people to the show. It took ten minutes before he realized I was the jester, and then he thought I was 24 years old. That made my day.

Yay for an awesome first day! I'm exhausted now, so I'm going to go be lazy and read a book. :D

OMG, je suis slow today.. I totally forgot to mention the after show stuff, and I'm too lazy to edit!

I go out for pictures with the crowd after the show, which is pretty cool. One of them really stood out, though. There were these two little girls, about maybe 3 and 6 years old.. they were fascinated by the dolphins, and by me for some odd reason. They were more than happy to take pictures with me, and then when they were leaving, the 6 year old goes "MOMMMYYY! Hang on a minute!" She ran back to me to say goodbye! She gave me a huge hug, which was adorable enough in itself, but then she gave me a kiss on the cheek and ran back to her mom.
With my clown makeup all over her face.

I did this other funny routine after one of the shows.. I was teasing this husband and wife, using stuff from Gary's routine.. I was hitting on her husband, and she was laughing.. she's like 'Hell, you could kiss him if ya want!' So I gave him a big kiss on the cheek, and he left with makeup all over him.. I saw him after the show behind the stadium and he still hadn't washed it off!

And now I'm done. I swear. Time to go eat Mr. Noodles! :D
