Marineland Jester Costume!

Just an assistant still.. it takes a lot of experience to become a trainer, but I'm off to a good start. I get to work even closer with the dolphins now.

They literally pay me to sit there and watch them for almost two full hours every day. I have to do dolphin breath rates in the morning and the afternoon, counting how many times they breathe in a 5 minute period. So I basically sit there and watch all 9 of them for them to take a breath, mark it on a chart, and keep watching.

This is awesome.. I can't believe they pay me to do this. :D

DEFINITELY take a trip! Ohhh you know you want to. Besides, you're not that far away, canoechiq.. like what, half an hour, 40 minutes? Depending on whether or not you do the speed limit down the QEW?

Speed Limit? Whats that? I have a bit of a lead foot. Tee hee. I'm working a ton over the summer, but maybe I can coherce some of my friends to come along. I haven't been to Marine land in ages.... probably more than 10 years.

You DO know June 2nd is a Thursday, right? :p If you'll be there on Saturday, the 4th, then I'll most definitely be there. The best place to sit for the show is directly in the center of the stadium. There's a big cream-coloured concrete thing in the middle, we call it the slideout, but other people just call it the splash zone/area. If you sit there you've got prime seats for all the action, and I usually bother the crowd in that general area.

Showtimes on Saturday are 12:00, 2:00, 3:45, 5:30, and 6:45. Usually I go out about 20-30 minutes before the show starts, so I'd suggest being early. That, and you're gonna want good seats. :) I'll be looking for the sign, so I know where to come bug you. I should warn you though, I'm not allowed to talk while I'm out in the crowd in costume, but if you stick around after the show I'll try to wash my makeup off and come out, if only for the excuse of getting lunch or something. ;)

Usually the most crowded shows are the first two, so I'd honestly say it's best to go to those ones. Even though you'd have to get there a bit earlier for seats and such, it's totally worth it to see the show with a larger crowd. There's far more enthusiasm, and the crowd involvement/reaction makes the show that much better.

And if you tell the boys to jump around like madmen when they say they need volunteers, chances are they'll get picked. I have no control over it, but the trainers picking the volunteers usually go for the ones who are so excited and hyper that they can't keep still.

And The-Raven: Even with the clown makeup?

yes even with the clown make-up but to a slightly lesser extent.

 And I thought the trainers were nuts for hitting on me in my costume..

Okay, so smb7676 came to the show today. It went great! But I'll leave it up to her to tell everyone what she thinks, if she would like. :)

Edit :: Looks like she beat me to it.

Ooh, sounds promising! :) Start saving. :p

Know what's sad? I have to pay regular admission prices, even though I'm an employee. :-( We do get complimentary passes, but it's one pair with our first paycheck, and that's it for the whole season.

Blagh. At least you can get a FunCard for $5 and come back. I can't. :(

Anyway. Whee, pictures!

Not yet, I think there's another two years before it's done. Arctic Cove with the beluga whales was the first part of it, the rest is some freshwater exhibit, dolphin exhibit, and shark exhibit.

In keeping with his goal to bring animals and people together, Holer’s expansion plans include the construction of a 20-acre aquarium complex.

First Stage: (complete)

Arctic Cove™ – beluga whale habitat – opened in 2004.

Second Stage: (in development)

Terrors of the Sea - will house various types of sharks, as well as stingrays and other ocean creatures.
Future Developments:

Discovery Reef - will contain an ocean reef that will showcase exotic marine species ordinarily found in Caribbean Reefs.
Rainforest Lagoon - will feature fresh water fish from around the world.
Friends of the Sea – will house an interactive dolphin habitat.
Terrors of the Sea, Discovery Reef, and Rainforest Lagoon are three separate domed aquariums that will each contain 4.5 million litres (1 million gallons) of water and each measure 76.2 metres (250 feet) in diameter.
Friends of the Sea will be the center dome, and the largest of the four domes at 91.4 metres (300 feet) in diameter and will hold 14 million litres (3 million gallons) of water.
All four facilities will allow for above water viewing and for under water viewing through large acrylic panels.
Special contact areas will allow visitors to have the chance to personally interact with some of the sea life such as: dolphins, stingrays, starfish, etc.
Educational information about each species will be found throughout the aquarium complex
Visitors will be able to purchase a ticket to enter the aquarium complex separately or as part of a combined Marineland park pass.

Wow. Thats one awesome upgrade. I would love to visit that. Too bad it's not up and running yet!

If I do end up coming, I'm a photo nut, and a video buff, so I could do it all!

How many people would be interested in a trip there? I don't get many days off, but would love to go.
