Ive had my first outbreak of marine whitespot - noticed this morning and still fairly mild. The tank has recently been moved and Im assuming stress

Tank details are in signature.

How should I treat this - last time I had whitespot in a freshwater tank the fish survived the whitespot and died from the medication!

I cant use copper obviously given inverts and corals. I dont yet have a quarantine tank. The external filter wont be fully matured yet but the live rock should be enough to provide biological filtration ?

What do I do.......I have given them a dose of vitamins this morning but nothing else so far.

I did read that in marine it is possible to not treat at all - just feed well and ensure good water quality?

Water quality is all fine - if anything there have been more water changes than I would like given the move. Nitrate is 20, Nitrate and Ammonia are 0, Salinity is 1.022

White spot is a common issue where the best medication is prevention. The best thing you can do is, feed their food with garlic and some people believe it can put off the parasites and it can boost the fishes immune system. I personally leave it to nature as the cleaner shrimps help a little also.

Hope goes ok. :good:

I don't treat my tank at all. I find that if the water quality stays good then the problem clears itself up within a week of so.

Maybe a cleaner shrimp would be a good addition as my Regal Tang will always go to my Skunk cleaner shrimp at the first signs of white spot.

I noticed you didn't list any clean-up crew in your sig. Do you have any in there??

i no this works in tropiacals if you turn your temp up a certain temp the parosites will fall of then you can ever treat with a smal dosage or maybe leave itup a few more days so that the white spot wont be on a fish because a treament can only kill it when its not attcahed to a fish i know this works for my tropical tank but am not perfectly sure for marine as i havent bought a tank yet becuase i am new to this but any way i just trying to help lol :D hope u get rid off it

I'll third those reccomendations. Feed garlic laced foods, prefferably soaked in a drop of Selcon for vitamins before feeding. Keep the fish well and if possible frequently fed. Just like with people, its better if you can feed the fish more frequently as opposed to one BIG meal a day. Keep your salinity as low as it is, and if you dont have one, consider a cleaner shrimp :good:.

Which fish are most affected?

Yes, which fish, and where are you located?

I have a large UV sterilizer on my system and slow the flow when I see spots on my tangs. In 2 ich attacks I had success taking frozen MYSIS (or, if in the states, better yet is Rod's Food), dissolve a large amount in a small amount of water, basically to defrost, then add Seachem's Focus and Metronidazole powder, soak all that in garlic, add selcon, and I also added a few drops of AP's GelTek px as it helps in binding it all together. It also adds a small dose of praziquantel which is also a benefit.

I fed this mix exclusively for 28 days. After the second time there has been no ich on any of my fish and that is now about 6 months or more.

This feeding, plus UV and cleaner shrimp and the fish survived and no other tankmates got sick.
