Reds (Rhizophora mangle) are the easiest to find, both commercially and out in nature. All Rhizophora species also have those beautiful prop roots we all like, unlike other common species such as white and black mangroves.
Salinity doesn't really matter much (or even full immersion in water); what is often misunderstood, is that these mangroves don't really need salinity: they rather adapt to a situation where water is salty, and they are among the fewest plants able to copy with it. But freshwater is perfectly OK.
As HX67 mentions, if grown suspended in water above the substrate - to stimulate root growth - they tend to "concentrate" their efforts on this, rather than on leaves, and they do remain at risk, in such a situation.
