When I went to the local garden center I payed visit to the fish section. And it's there, counting the last days in sorry state. Two altums. LFS man told me a Colombian supplier send them to try out, 10 come month ago but all died but this two. Totally messed up due to fighting and not eating. So I have to rescue this beautiful animals. The were in 'not for sale tank' but I manage get them sold me for tenner each.

Today morning both eat around 20 odd live mosquito larvae. And eating mini blood worms now.. Looking good I guess..

Nice. Love these fish.

Very nice fish :)

Its interesting that you say Colombian because there have been a few shops in the UK stocking these fish that look like Altumns but actually only get to the size of Scalare, some of the shops who are good at ID'ing fish have been labeling them up as sp.Colombia as there is something not 100% about them being Altums. Not sure if this is the case with yours but it could be since they were not specifically imported :)

For a trained eye, True altums can be id easily. There is no such a thing as Altum cross. But there is inbred stocks which have Brocken bars.
But the main issue is tank setup. 2ft by 30inch standard bare bottom tank is no good. They won't grow to normal size. I have seen short fat altums in such a tanks. I have 800l tank like rainforest and altums I bought 10p size are now feet tall and thin like leaf. ( but no matter what I do, no breeding at all)
