I had done quite a bit of research on clown plecos before I got this guy. I had just never heard of feeding sweet potato to anything in my tanks before!

It was a new one to me too but I guess as they eat driftwood the roughage in sweet potato must be good for them I guess?  Mentioned it to my friends when they first got theirs sometime ago but do not think they have tried it as yet.
I just thought as it was a bright colour you would soon know if he had been eating, if he likes it of course

Very interesting, and makes sense. I'll probably try it. I did see some evidentiary poo yesterday, so he must be eating, likely in the cover of darkness. I wish he was more social!

Alas sadly they are not known for their social behaviour, my friends never see theirs and from time to time they just check he is still alive under his log!  They should be renamed to the "invisible pleco".

I was at LFS today and there was a tank with around 20 clown Pleco . Wait, here is best part, they were 4.99$ each!!!

Aw, c'mon ... my first trip to an LFS in more than a year!!! And I found a clown pleco! 

 
Probably the last time you'll find him for a while... He'll be hiding out a lot!

I'll give that some thought. He's still hiding, unfortunately. I saw him today after searching everywhere, and he's just parked on the sand under a rock cave. Starting to get worried that he's not eating anything. I'd really, really hate to lose him, especially after my losses last night.

 
 
They come out more at night.  I have the same issue with my BN plec.  He comes out at feeding time (but will hide again if I move too much near the tank) and will also sneak out if he thinks I'm not looking later in the evening.

Does anyone know if they'll stay out using the moonlight lights?

Yeah they'll swim around in moonlight but I wouldn't reccomend any light on for more than 12 hours. when I had a moonlight it was on bright for 9-10 hours and moonlight for 2-3.

I was just wondering if you thought it would make itself visible in the moonlight. I only keep any light on for 5 hours a night.
