Lljdma06's Nano; Scape #2 8/09 - 3/10

Thanks, it's not the final scape photos, which were taken in December and will be the ones I post in the members Planted tank section this weekend. The scape has already long run its course and will be dismantled before I leave for Italy. I will probably even dismantle the tank and leave it empty, housing the remaining fish in the 36g until I return. The moss wall and the possibly the wood from this tank can be dumped in the 36g too. The glory this particular setup. It is extremely mobile. The plants and fish will certainly survive in the 36g conditions. There is more than enough cover for the remaining crabs. This will save my family from doing heavy maintenance while I'm gone. The 36g doesn't need regular water changes and it is understocked.

The plant you like is Hydrocotyle verticillata. It is a native plant where I live and adapts to both terrestrial and aquarium conditions. These plants are in ready supply in my yard and I'll probably remove that crop and put it in a bowl. It will literally grow anywhere. Or I'll put it up in plant swap.

Your dismantling a tank like that :( Lucky you having plants galore in your garden

Right, well if i had a tank like that i'd never ever take it down :look:

Well, it's either that or rely on someone with absolutely no planted tank experience to care for the tank while I'm away. At least in the 36g, the plants and fish do not require the same maintenance. That tank can go without a waterchange for the duration of my trip.

Better that than coming home to algae and destroyed plants because something went wrong. Get my meaning?

Yeah.

Well, I did it. When I make a decision, I go with it. This morning I dismantled this tank. It just didn't make any sense to do a waterchange when with only a little effort more, I'd have it dismantled and it would be ready when I returned from Italy.

The inhabitants, including some susswassertag covered wood will be in the 36g.

I'll be starting a new thread when I setup the tank again. Here's a couple of shots from its developed scape back in December and November.

Thank you for letting me share this scape with you! I look forward to the next one. :D

I read through this whole thread with a nice capucchino and it made great reading! Very nice, as usual. One question, how did you get the tiger lotus to stay that small? Mine is always working it's way up to the surface, although I keep trimming.

Mmmmmm, capuccino. Well, back to the tank. This lotus is the daughter plant from the lotus I had from back in IL. It is a small bulb.

is that hydrocotyle as opposed to the more commonly used marselia sp. ?
it seems almost to tall for marselia.

how do you find the plant? - easy to grow?

On the left behind the wood was actually marsilea minuta. On the right, the plant in the pearling pictures, is hydrocotyle verticillata. Both are easy to grow.

Weeds, infact.

you have me tempted to throw some marselia into my 4x2x2... i shall have to have a think!

UK. but im not sure where it would go in my 4x2x2.
im waiting for the blyxa to fill in so its hard to tell what areas are lacking.
and with the deadline of the IAPLC getting closer i dont want to ruin the scape!

If you had been in the US, I would have checked my tub and sent you some. :) I just took a look at your tank in the journal. While marsilea is cute, I'm not sure it's the best thing for your scape. Your scape looks great as it is, it just needs to fill out.

When is the deadline?
