Liverbird's New Fishless Cycle

Yay!

My Mum has started watching them in the day now and going on about the bully. She thinks I should take him back to LFS on Saturday. I think she might be right :(

It may be so much less stress for you in the long run. Hate the fact that things are a bit awkward for you at the moment. You should be enjoying your fish. It shouldn't be a stressful experience for you. Only you can decide what is the right thing for you to do. No one can tell you what is right or wrong as it has to be your decision. Whatever you decide you will decide for all the right reasons. It will be tough but things will work out eventually xx

Yay.

Get sweet natured fish only lol.

Gonna get a couple on Monday all being well. Will have a look tomorrow at what he's got, make some notes and have a think over the weekend as to what to get as I haven't a clue. I think the only way i'm going to decide is by going to the shop and having a good look. Will let you know what I decide on.

As (I think !!) the tank has cycled but am unable to put any fish in until next week, should I reduce the amount of Ammonia I am feeding the tank with so as to help keep the Nitrates down, or keep dosing to the same 4ppm level. Will do a complete water change before I add any fish but find the Nitrates rise very quickly (small tank) so wondering if adding less would have a more beneficial effect ??

No.. because you are not worried about the levels of result materials like nitrite and nitrates, you are just worried about maintaining the overall colony size you've achieved, so just keep dosing as you have been, right up to the big water change. A tank can even be dosed maybe one more time -after- the big water change if you had a sudden change of plans and couldn't get the fish that day, since one day of resulting nitrates wouldn't result in much change from the effect of the big water change and of course we know the colonies would clear the ammonia and nitrite in 12 hours. As mentioned earlier, most who follow fishless cycling carefully, as you have done, find that their first stocking is quite easily handled by the biofilter that has been built.. they just see rock solid double-zeros in the days that follow the first stocking.

Hey Caz! No, I've never had Diamonds (that I can remember, lol, I had a basement filled with tanks as a teenager and often lost track of what I had!) They are just yet another tetra on my wish list from seeing in pictures or the occasional glimpse at a shop or swap-meet.

Many thanks for all your help WD as for all who have helped, I am extremely grateful. Couldn't have got through this quite as painlessly without all your help. I am sooooo wnating the Diamond Tetra's too but sadly no stockist in my area

Have you thought about buying the diamond tetras online. I have heard good things on another forum about this place:

I really want Diamond Tetra's but no one local sells them. Other than them, I haven't a clue what to stock.

My first stocking ideas came from typing my aquarium name and liter(ige) into youtube (for example juwel 125l.)

Most hobbyist actually list their stock in the description bar so even if you come across a species you haven't seen before you can quickly identify and read up should something take your interest.

If you do get diamonds may i suggest bumblebee and or crystal red cherry shrimp as part of the clean up crew? As hey prefer a higher temp range like diamonds.
