Liverbird's New Fishless Cycle

One of my crappy ones does. You should ask if they'll order them for you?

What from your crappy one !!! LMHO !!! The bloke I want to get my fish from is brilliant. Fish are always lovely and healthy and he is really experienced. The added bonus is that the Ph the fish are in in the shop is highish like mine so will have no probs with them adjusting (hopefully) Gonna go and see what he has and then decide. He has a new load of fish coming in next week so my cycle hopefully will be done around the time they come out of quarantine. No idea what i'm gonna end up with lol.

Well...the Nitrites are back AGAIN !!! definitely on a rollercoaster of a cycle now. I suppose at only 0.25ppm it could be a lot worse.

I'd call 0.25 a minor blip. I was hoping you'd hit your third double zero but I guess it's better to have that happen now as opposed to when you get your fish.

Got my double zero's back today. Gonna check out my local aquarium guy's stock on Friday.

That sounds like what happened with me Liverbird.

This gives you the stocking dilemma. It's only struggling slightly wuith 5ppm but your first stocking won't be anything like that and your filter is probably more than capable of dealing with it........

Yeah I agree Caz. I remember the hassle you had at the end with your nitrite levels. I don't mind too much as my fish man is getting new stock in at end of week so I can go and see what he has. He won't be able to sell until the following week so it gives me a bit of time. my daughter is badgering me big time for an Axolotl but I think they are so odd. How's everything with your fish now ??

TBH, I think ammonia spikes in any tank is common, i'd be worried if states were 100% perfect every single day, once cycled.

Like Twinkle says above, once fish are in, it's a lot easier. I've never had a problem with readings when my fish are in, I get the odd Nitrate reading but nothing to worry about.

Yeah they're odd looking things! I'm so jealous of your good LFS :(

Fish were ok this morning. The bullying problem isn't improving though.

Have they caused each other any injury ??? any chance you can swap one or both of them ?? not that that's what you want I know.

I dunno, I might look at rehoming the bully. The one he bullies is so sweet natured though, he's certainly my fav Platy.

I don't wanna take bully back to LFS coz tho they're the best I've found the shop still isn't wonderful and all my fish's health has improved dramatically since I've had them.

Is it a Honey G which is being the bully? We're having that problem at the moment haha, it's not that much of a problem until it comes to feeding time and fish go for the specific flake it wants!

No it's the red platy being bullied by the black and white one (and the yellow one tonight. The thing is the yellow and black and white one go for each other so I don't worry about them so much but they both (black and white more so) go for the red one and he never fights back, just hides. I've actually been thinking about getting him his own tank. But then the weird thing is 5 mins later he swims up to them again so it's like he really wants to join in but they won't let him. That's why I think it would be almost as cruel to house him on his own.

So I'm stuck basically.

Nah the Honey G's and Platys don't seem to even acknowledge each other!

Hopefully with a bit of time things will get better for hem. I guess the blessing is that they haven't harmed each other in any way. It's a tough one to know what to do. Wish I could come up with some sort of solution for you.
