Little Nemo Diary

Because of my change in schedule during the summer and also in my attempt to reduce my photo period, I changed the lighting period and lighting cycles are important in clownfish reproduction. The changes seem to have halted their baby making for now unfortunately. This week momma clownfish has been looking fatter, however, so I'm hoping her belly's becoming full of eggs.

OK, news update after many quiet months.

Many of the larger babies have found new homes, Although I still have 4 of the older ones that are almost a year old now.

For some reason, Momma and Daddy stopped laying eggs for a long time and only recently started up production again, so I started up again as well.

Here's some recent additions, at 15 days old. There's 21 of them.

Some have two stripes, some only have one still. I'll be moving them tomorrow to a different tank that already has two of their older brothers that are about 1.5 months old.

I also have 17 or 18, 4 day old babes with full tummies.
And mommy and daddy laid more eggs tonight. Back to business with them!

A friend of mine runs a hatchery out of his house and has several breeding pairs. He's going out of town for a few days and has asked me to take care of one of his hatches, so we'll see how that goes. That will be happening the beginning of next week.

I thought that was the reason, but I'm not sure anymore, the went a long time.

I moved the little ones to the tank with the two 1.5 month old babies. They all seem to be getting along just fine.

Video, make sure to increase the resolution to 480p otherwise the just look like blobs. If you go to the actual youtube page (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmhH98GDx5s) the video is about twice as large. Very active little fish.

Finally kinda have a system down.
Moved the rest of the little clowns into a 10G, there's around 35 babies in there now ranging from 3 weeks to 2 months old.

Thought I'd take a picture of a couple while doing so. On the left of them is a penny, for size reference. One on top is 2 months, one on the bottom is 1 month old.

Although off-topic, thanks Freddie. :p

Last hatch was a bust, I forgot to turn off the powerhead and well, babies don't do well fighting the flow... One baby made it into the snagger though, didn't know what to do with him. I didn't want to kill him, so I put him a quart mason jar with water, some rotifers and greenwater and placed it inside the 10g juvenile tank to keep him warm.

Wouldn't you know it, the darn little guy lived. He's 5 days old now, swimming around like crazy.

Next hatch is due monday or tuesday, hopefully with no faults

haha !

Yes, I had my first hatch in the new tank a couple days ago. Went smooth, larvae snagger worked wonders again. Had a large die off, unfortunately, the first day. But I also had a HUGE hydroid break out in my tank and I think some got in with the larvae and have been killing them :(. Regardless, have 50-100 left.

For your fish entertainment... (PS Watch in HD!)
