hey. i was thinking about in the future (next few years) maybe moving on to marine fishes, esp keeping lionfish (been a dream of mine for a while).

But i was wondering what other types of fishes could be kept with lionfish? are they comunity fish or can you only keep them alone?

Hi,

Good news, Lion fish can be kept with any fish that is to big to fit in his mouth. Also Depends on what size tank you will be useing as to what other fish you can add.

Let me know what size tank you plan on useing and i can give you a few choices that i think would go great with a lion.

Saltwater is alot of fun if you dont rush. :D

Only bad things happen fast in a marine tank ;)

Yep, slow is the key. Ive got a 120g reef that ive had for 2yrs. and only have 2 fish. Dont let impur sway your mind on going salt.

Its very rewarding to have a sucessfull SW tank weather its F/O or reef.

Good luck either way :D

I'v got a 100 gallon reef 9soon to be 130 when the refugeium is plumbed in) mine hase only ben setup since feb this year and has mainly hard corals like acros etc. how do you manage to limit yourself to two fish? I can't resist whemn I go into the LFS. I have 3 fish already. including a fuzzy dwarf lion. :p

Maybe you are one of the lucky ones. I over stocked a 20g when i first started out and ended up getting ich and killing my fish. I will never do that again.

I do plan on adding a few more green chromis.I currently have a naso tang, and a green chromie. For corals mostly sps a few lps and xenia.

and for clean up crew I have 1 blue lankia star,50 blue leg hermits,50 red leg hermits,4 emrald crabs,5 peppermint shrimp,1 cleaner shrimp,3 brittle stars,3 cukes,40 turbo snails,50 nassarious snails, and 1 sally light foot

i'v got 60 hawian hermits 10 blue legs 1 red brittle star one huge cucumber two cone shells (not the deadly type) 10 turbo snails and 2 trochus snails.

I'v got a gold ring bristle tooth tang, blood anthias soon to become a shoal and a dwarf lion. the tank matured for a month with just the rack then another month with just the hermits and then another with the rest of the cleaners in. all the time the lights were off to reduce the algae bloom.

Resisting the urge to overstock a marine tank is difficult. Esecially when the stocking levels allowed are drastically smaller than freshwater. These urges can be tempered however by considering all the other lifeforms you can get.

Great lakes

So true,
I almost like looking at all the micro things that come out at night as much as i do the fish during the day. How amazing is the ocean. You have a day cycle of life and at night it is a whole nother world. I cant belive all those things live in my front room. :D :D :fish:
