Lily Rose's 64L Tank Cycle

No problem rebrn, we all miss things occassionally, i miss my brain on a regular basis. Daily according to the kids!

This mornings results are:
ammonia 0ppm.....dosed with 2.5mls ammonia
nitrite spike.(5+)
Nitrate 5pppm ( again)
pH 8.4

hello guys, this evenings readings are

ammonia 0ppm
nitrites 5++ppm
nitrates 5ppm
pH 8

i put my 2 plants back in as the filter is coping with ammonia. plz tell me if this is a mistake xx
oh and I got it wrong, its not one snail, its two!

I am by no means a plant expert, but I think plants use ammonia as food, so your plants may use the ammonia rather than it going to the bacteria. But wait for a more expert opnion before removing.

yes thats what I thought. I'll take them out... its just they may die as they are a little
brown. maybe i shoulkd take them out and give the tank a good clean incase they have changed the chemistry
but they look so nice, and i bet the 2 snails think they're great!

No need to clean the tank, they wouldn't have changed the chemistry that much, at most they may have eaten up some of the ammonia and nitrates, but no need to do a complete change. Do you have somewhere where you can put them in direct sunlight, or under a really bright light? That should help to perk them up a bit.

what about in a saucepan full of water outside?

oh and is the set up with the stones etc lame?

what about in a saucepan full of water outside?

Might work, usually what I see advised is a clear plastic bin (like tupperware) filled with water and placed in the window sill where it will get light, but a saucepan full of water might work too as long as is isn't too cold outside.

I like the decor, the only thing I would add, if it were my tank, is another plant or two behind the big rock, but otherwise I think it looks great.

yeah thats the plan, i want to get some other plants i saw in my petsathome store ( new one too in fforestfach swansea) had a brill variety. i dont know the names of them, but a long thin one, looked like a spider plant, another looks like a lily pad, long stems, with large flat leaves, and other shorter ones for in front of the large rock ( if i find out the names, i shall let you know) i think what i have in there now sounds like, ohmydear?? or something

good morning guys... this mornings results are...

ammonia 0... added 2.5mls of ammonia
nitrite 5++ again
nitrate 5.0 again

how long can a nitrite spike last guys....getting bored!

hi all, just an update on my tank, alls well, but I added some plants as I was bored. I will keep an eye on it and make sure everything is working well before adding fish, what do you think of the additions

any feedback would be great

I like the rock i'd just add a few smaller plants at the front of the tank.

Also my dad had that same variagated plant you have in the front corner just be careful cos one minute it was looking great the next it was mush, hopefully it was just bad luck on my dad's part lol

THANKYOU finalfantay85
