it is a scopas tang they look similer to black tangs but the are a more choclate kind of colour so they are the cheap once they are about £30 most places

1) get your test results checked
2) if still high, I also suspect the dsb
3) you are great at saving a tank and also getting everything out and starting again, I would take everything out, put new sand in, research and probably rehome those tangs

usually about an inch of coral sand if fine.

Yeah, he doesnt want a DSB of coral sand though. A plain aragonite would be better for that.
