I have a penguin biowheel that is practically brand new and it leaks. Before I installed it my daughter was jumping on my bed (right next to the tank, and yes I told her to stop!) and it fell on the floor. But it didn't start leaking right away. The only other thing that has happened to this filter is that a kuhli died in the impeller :(. That was actually right around the time it started leaking--about a week after I set it up.

It took me forever to figure out why it was leaking but I finally discovered a little crack in the plastic near the top, in a corner of the main chamber right next to the impeller chamber. Its such a little split I couldn't see it until I took the filter off the tank and shined a flashlight down inside it after I had checked to see exactly where the water was coming from.

So I siliconed it. But it still leaks. I put the silicone over the crack, on the inside and the outside, and let it cure for two days before reinstalling the filter. Whats up? Does it not adhere to plastic or something? I would think it still would enough to keep it from leaking through a crack that is already so fine. Is there a possibility the water could be coming from somewhere else?

Just hoping for some help brainstorming. I don't want to have to buy another filter. This one runs smoothly and noiselessly and like I said is brand new.

Get some pvc glue, it works like model airplane glue, but is drinking water safe. Smooth a little over the crack, & let it dry overnight. I fixed an Aqua Clear 300 with a few cracks in the bottom this way.
