Well, we are assuming here that she means an aquarium fish. If the first time she ever had a fish ( food or otherwise ) was just last year, that's a bit weird.

Unofficially would be 1 year and 4 months which is how long since I bought the first fish tank, since it took me 4 months to cycle the damn thing

That was before TTA wrote his definitive guide to cycling, when I read various guides on the internet and concluded that BioMature would be the best product to cycle my tank with.  It didn't work out well.  Never mind, I got there in the end!

Yeah mine took about 2 monthes to cycle using the guide, but towards the end i realized that you cannot overdose with bacteria.  Soon after i added alot more and it cycled much quicker.
