Large Empty Tank And Thinking Of Oscars.....

ive made a bit more room in the tank by letting the nicaraguan, flier and salvini go. sad to see them go but they were the 3 most aggressive in the tank so hopefully with the extra space the fish remaining will be happier :good:

stocking now -

1 x oscar
1 x gold severum
1 x red spot severum
1 x rotkeil severum
1 x diadema
1 x black ghost knifefish
1 x jaguar catfish
2 x humbug catfish

im now thinking of a severum, oscar and diadema tank :hey: and maybe rehome the rotkeil and add 2 more red spotted or gold sevs or 1 of each..... unless i can find another rotkeil of a decent size :hyper:

well today ive either gone totally mad or im being very generous to Keith.......

i sold all my cichlids in this tank and just kept Keith the oscar. i felt he wasnt given enough room and all the other cichlids were always looking over their shoulder even though Keith is a softy

so the tank stocking as it stands is -

1 x oscar
1 x black ghost knifefish
1 x jaguar catfish
1 x humbug catfish

very sad to see those fish go  but now i need to think of a group of 4-5 smaller cichlids that max out at about 5-6 inches just to keep the tank busy or dare i risk another oscar..........

after much thought i have decided to move Keith and his current tank mates into a 5x2x2 that ill be ordering soon hopefully.

im sure he will be as happy in the new tank and it means he gets to move from the garage into the living room :hyper:

and i really do get my true wet pet that i set out to have from day one :good:

my tank is so empty.........

i think Keith is missing the company of other fish. he has started going nuts at his reflection in the glass.... also hes not eating as well as he use to!

Keith has new friends :hyper:

on yet another trip to a few not so lfs.... i have decided that Keith might be better with something else moving in the tank to keep him from getting too fed up.

i came accross a species of barb today that ive never seen in their adult colours and instantly thought that a group of them would keep the tank moving and give Keith a few smaller mates. he has been fine with other small fish in the past although these barbs are about 3 inches they are seriously fast and Keith really stands no chance so im sure they wont find him too much of a threat and they can live together in peace.

the barbs i got are called arulius barb or long finned barbs and are pinky/red on the back half and green/blue/purple on the head and along the back with red anal and tail fins. i decide that a group of 9 would make them feel safer and settle in better :good:

they will grow but the tank still looks empty and im tempted with another 3 but its not just down the road to get any more

ill get some pics if they will stay still for long enough.....! i hope they dont spook Keith too much either....!

:)

all of the barbs have survived their first night in with Keith :hyper: lets hope thats a good sign.....

they are pretty scared of him though but i guess anything would be living with a monster size fish

Keith goes one end and they shoal over to the other.... but at least there is movement in the tank now and im sure they will get use to him in time :good:

Beasty Keith shall be happy again soon. :D
i hope so mate although he is still not 100% and still sulking.

i think he misses the bigger fish ans he was boss of them all.....

and as soon as the barbs see him coming they whizz off to the other side of the tank so in a way until they get use to him he is still alone

I think it's competition he wants, not fish he will see as "silly little barbs."

They're silly and little to crazy Keith though. :p

Edit: silly not cilly.

They're cilly and little to crazy Keith though. :p

Hopefully CK will adopt his new friends soon. :)

I think you should start calling him Crazy Keith (CK) :D

Keith really has fallen out with me this time.....

since removing the other cichlids from the tank Keith hasnt been his self in the way he acts and the way he eats! and the last 2 times ive done water changes on his tank he has gone for me  not just once but everytime i put my hand in the tank

i hope he snaps out of it soon
