Large Empty Tank And Thinking Of Oscars.....

Its poo like that from my L75 that made me swap from plecs to whiptails.... haha

Looks great although the pic of the royal has slightly put me off getting one for my 150G
because of the poo or because of the fish.....? as always the pic doesnt do the colouration justice, it is a very good looking pleco and i love their big chunky heads :good:
if its because of the poo then dont forget all plecos especially when bigger poo lots
Because of the poo the fish is stunning one of my favourite looking plecs. I know they do but that looks some pretty chunks stuff
they look like mini twiglets......

Haha. The cactus plecs are stunning aswell. If i can get a jaguar catfish for a good price i think ill go for a royal or cactus.

Did you end up buying some more Ctenopoma at the weekend to make a bigger group that will eventually be added to this monster tank?

Given last night's doubly sad tale, are you tempted to buy another? If there's just two now, there's a real danger of a "weakest link" scenario.

yes im going to get 3 more but can only get them from wharf aquatics unless i order online  if my filter is cycled before the weekend then ill be collecting the oscar from wharf so i can get 3 more if they still have any left
gutted about last night i lost 2 really healthy fish

just to update on my cycle the ammonia had stopped reducing over the weekend and after i checked the pH it had crashed down to the lowest on the API chart... ive done a large water change to get the pH up to 7.8 ish again so hopefully the bacteria will be ok and the cycle can carry on.
would the bacteria just have gone dormant at the lower pH or will it have died off?

im so tempted by this but it couldnt really be any further away from me

i dont suppose anyone lives near this guy do they?

Perhaps get in touch with "VickiandKev" as they are based in London, but more for the fact they are dedicated catfish breeders, so they will no doubt spot anything wrong with what appears to be a lovely looking specimen.

Its looking really good :good: As for the royal (gorgous) that little few twiglets is nothing compared to what my Jethro can produce

 i got up this morning and the few twiglets had become a poo substrate  so a big water change and vac was in order. these things can poo

 Thats plecs for you.

How active are the sun cats? I have a black collared catfish, similar to the sun cats. I only see him at feeding time, although they are suppose to be better off in a group but finding black collared catfish is proving impossible

the sun cats were very active and always out and about but ive had to seperate them as it started getting a bit aggressive and 1 has a white mark near the dorsal fin that i assume was from fighting.... since seperating them i never see 1 but the other is still quite active. ill have a bigger tank available as soon as this big tank is stocked so i was going to try them together again in that for a while to see how they got on. they were only in a 2ft tank together before as a quarentine tank.
ive owned 1 before a while ago as a single specimin and never saw it. it would come out from its cave into a shadow to feed and then it was gone again..... i would deffo say more than 1 is better as long as they get on

just been offered a 7 inch L114 excluding tail for £65 :hyper: but its at the other end of the country in Lancashire

does anyone go near lancashire at all?

Maybe visit Blackpool for the weekend and pick up catfish on the way home?

Failing that, how about using APC or a similar livestock courier?
