save yourself the hastle of the nitrate test matey, really not needed, grats on the movement, looks like fishies soon :>

The 1.0 ppm of nitrites means that you have a ways to go yet. By my way of thinking of things, you have just gotten a start to a fishless cycle. The ammonia processing bacteria have been established but the nitrite processors are yet to be established. Until you can get that nitrite under control without a water change, you are not ready to consider adding any fish.

No water change planned and i will not be addingfish until nitrates are clear within 12 hrs. Including qualifying days. This is 12 hour testing i am on now.

Day 35, 7th May 2011 - 07:00: Ammonia: 0ppm, Nitrite: 0.25

Plants use Nitrates if im not mistaken the N bacs are the ones who take care the Nitrite

Eaglesaquarium, thanks for the link to the post by DocTim. I had no seen that before. His statement about the preferred concentration to encourage the right bacteria goes much further than WD and I have been going. The .14mg/l concentration is less than 1 ppm of nitrites. I will try to keep that in mind when I am giving advice since DocTim is the authority on what conditions the various bacteria need for proper growth.

Cheers Tizer, how was the holiday ?

Wet....rained nearly every day! but still hot so it was still good fun. Went snorkeling with the turtles and saw hundreds of marine fishes which was really ace. most of them too big for a tank though :)

tigers all ok, bar one, which seems to have been sent to the big white telephone in the bathroom tonight. no idea why it snuffed it. feh.

time to start looking for a fire Extinguisher for the main tank now!

Glad you had a good time. Shame about the tiger.

I have been playing around with yeast co2 in the small tank but never seem to get enogh in there acording to the drop checker. But i uppose some is better than non.
