I have searched high and wide for this plec in shops, aquatics specialists, internet the lot and come up short every time, why is finding this fish so difficult or has anybody got any information as to where I may find one, I'm in the Cheshire area but willing to travel within reason.

Thanks.

If anyone can source them then Jo and Nick can.

In Crewe as well, recently voted Catfish retailer of the year.

Edit - Link fail, not sure why, just google Rare Aquatics .co .uk

Edit 2 - this fish is Venezuelan, not sure exports are technically allowed from there, they will know

Thanks for that, I tried the website only the other day and nothing was listed but I'll try and ring them tomorrow... If it turns out exports are forbidden does that mean I have no chance of getting one or will I have to search for a tank bred species, if tank breeding is possible with this fish.

Mail them or join plecoplanet forum, they post there.

Tank breeding will be possible, plenty of other Panaquolos have been, tracking down someone that has done it will be harder.

are there any other similar plecs you would consider ?? worth looking i guess. ive got an L204 flash plec, which to be honest isnt overly similar, but its black and yellow striped. im sure you could find something more suitable.

I was originally set on the Golden Stripe but the difficulty in finding it is putting me off, I had considered the Tiger panaque L002 but after research found out it needs different water hardness compared to most other fish I got put off.

I definitely want a dwarf plec as the tank is only 130lts and something that's different in colours or just not like a BN which I find boring... Did also look at the zebra plec but I'm not willing to pay close t £100 for it.

Edit: As I'm purchasing black substrate would the Flash plec not "get lost"

I'd go for a L200 (Bary not Hemi, prettier and smaller) but that is the upper size of what you could keep in a 130l.

L134 worth considering I think and shouldn't be that hard to source

regards the flash, at juvi/small the yellow stripes are very prominent, and when adult they fade a bit. mine doesnt spend time on the substrate other than feeding, same as my cousins one only comes down to feed.

this is my most recent picture, had it about a year now i think. photo was probably about 6 months after i got it.

Some good news after speaking to the folks at Rare aquatics.

Apparently there is no export restrictions on this type of L number and although they have none at present, there going to get in touch with there Columbian supplier as they have an order due for the end of the month, the fish will sell well so they plan on stocking it if not next month then the month after.... Very helpful phonecall and thanks to the person on this thread who suggested trying them.

By the way that flash plec how big do they get and could you keep more than one, great pic also.

Flash is about the largest of the Panaquolos, the one I owned was the most aggresive species if the 20 or so I have kept, I had to rehome it in the end.

Fully grown expect around 6-7 inches including tail.

I'm glad Nick/Jo were able to sort you out.
