Keiths New Tank Journal

Hi...I just got pointed towards your journal to look at your lighting....and fell in love with Keith!

So can I ask what you think of the Arcadia LED'S? I'm really tempted but obviously they ain't cheap!!!

Would you recommend them?

Hi Lisa.

the arcadia LED light strips arent cheap but dont forget that the costs include everything. you get the light and starter/power pack and the LEDs will outlast a T8 or T5 tube by many times.

its recommended that you should change a T8 or T5 every year to get the best from them as they lose their power over time, LEDs wont. i think i paid £100 for my lights and only run 1 in the tank as i dont want it real bright in there and it does a great job. if you buy a starter and a T8 or T5 tube you will probably pay £50 ish so the cost is double but they will last much much longer so beneficial over time and also use less power so the wife was happier

ive ordered a new tank thats coming in a couple of weeks and ive had another LED light ordered with it as im impressed with the one i already have. im going to quickly try it in Keiths tank just to see how it looks and maybe get another if its much improvement :good:

the only bad thing i can say about them is that because they are mini coloured spot lights in effect sometimes you do see faint red or green dots on objects of fish when they are near the surface but its nothing that would really worry you.

i would say if you have the cash then go for it

also Keith is very fetched that you love him

I saw a lovely pair of Oscars at my LFS today when I was shopping with my brother. I used to keep a Serrasalmus niger years ago and he [my bro] couldn't understand how I could dedicate a huge tank to one fish! He wasn't a fish keeper then....but is now and said....Wow why don't you keep fish like that!
I have the room and he doesn't lol....am sorely tempted to get one....or two!!!! Only problem being I would want them in the front room where I could see them and my display tank right now is my GSP's and I have worked on this little project for nearly a year now and would hate to demote them to the dining room!

Thanks for the info info on the lights too. I will probably get them even though I have another member encouraging me to make my own.....HELLO....female here!!!

think i may get a set of those lights eventually matt once ive built a hood for this tank

i got an even better pic earlier but it didnt turn out great

lol see my other thread and you will see how well they get on

anyway sorry matt dont wanna trash your journal with oscar talk

ive decided to keep the 2 rainbow cichlids in with Keith as they do an awesome job of keeping the wood clean of algae. i never knew they were such good algae eaters...... :hyper:

so they wont be going into the ornatums den after all but i do have another 4 lined up for that tank :hey:

well i went to an lfs for a new filter pipe and came home with a new tank mate for Keith

its a Pseudoplatystoma Fasciatum X Phractocephalus Hemioliopterus or more commonly known as a RTC X TSN. ive always wanted either of these 2 cats and they had both and cross breeds in today so i went for the best of both...... :hyper:

yes i know in time it will get huge but for now its in a decent size tank for it to grow up a bit in.
