Juwel Rio 125 Tropical To Marine Conversion

yeah i do quite like them. gonna look for a bright green one that fluoresces next i think.

decided to do a bit of lights out tank watching last night and there was hundreds if not thousands of tiny pods or rotys in there at the front of the glass. does that mean that i should be ok to add a manderin?

i decided to put two decent sized pieces of porous lr in the sump to use as live food carriers. im going to put one of the pieces of rock in the main tank every now and again to carry the pods that i added to the sump up there. seems to have worked really well so far as theres loads in the main tank but from what iv read will be no where near enough food for the mandy. reckon it would demolish the lot in a couple of hours.

would a scooter be ok yet or not?

Scooters need the same amount of copepods as a mandy.

:( oh well guess ill just have to give them a miss. would hate to jeopardise their health because i couldnt feed them enough.

what other fish could i add? looking for something colourful.

quite like the pyjama wrasse so thats on the maybe list so far

i like your aquascaping :good:
purple dart fish are nice :good:
if you dont mind your feather dusters being eaten then maybe a coral beauty?

:good: looking good I like the scaping it will look ace when you get more corals in there

as for corals on the substrate how about a fungia? lovely looking coral and maybe a favia or lobo?

Simon

thanks :D had a change around earlier as the hermits kept moving the corals and i still havnt got any putty to stick them down. theyr nice and secure now in the gaps in the rocks. i liked the old scape but it needed a lot more coral for it to work. maybe ill change it back when the tanks got more stock in it.

heres what it looks like now. very different. makes the tank look bigger.

all of them really fluoresce bright green under the blue led torch. still need to buy some led strips

spotted a few baby turbos when i was changing the rock around :D free cuc.. nice

I have the same coral
I thought it was finger coral a kind of leather. They grow huge in a short space of time. Look terrible whensulking but very impressive when happy. Mines been sulking for a coupleof weeks at the moment

thanks :D

the leather has been sulking since i moved it again yesterday. hasnt really been out since. gonna see what its like tomorrow and if it same its going back where it was.

if it gets basketball size ill definately have to get rid unless they frag ok.

iv been looking for some of them corals you mentioned simon but the ones iv found so far are really expensive and quite small.

that finger leather in your tanks a good size nemo. what sort of lighting you got? how old is the coral? love the tank shot btw. hope i have that many corals one day

iv found a couple of mandys that im considering but still unsure. the lfs has had them a while now and assures me they have been weened (frozen marine mix). what do you think? yes or no?

Mine's actually a devil's hand leather. I frag it pretty often. Not sure how "old" it is. A friend of mine gave it to me, as it was not doing well in his tank and he told me that he had got it from someone else. It was very large when I got it to begin with...

Even if on frozen foods, mandys should have a supply of copepods. They eat throughout the entire day and are constantly hunting. They need the copepods too :good:

is that what mine is? they look very similar in structure.

as you can probably tell im really wanting a mandy :) i think a copepod culture is the way forward.

i noticed the torch wasnt out as much as it normally is over the last 2 days so i tested the water and the sg was 1.029. not good. the other day when i was doing the water change i topped up the tank with salted water and not pure ro  oops

anyway iv just replaced some with ro and its down to 1.027, gonna do a little more in the morning. the torch has come out a bit more already. what sort of effect does high sg have on corals?

test results

no3 - 10
no2 - 0
ph - 8.4
alk - norm
gh - 8
kh - 10
sg - 1.027

they all sound ok?

changed the 6500k t8 to actinic too. brings out the colours a lot more.

do you need marine white tubes or could you use just actinic? not that i would.. just curious

edit: just found out what that coral is called ... fluorescent green sinularia coral
