Well having a houseful of over 40 bettas I decided I'd like something abit different and after researching various different fish I kept coming back to DPs. Spent the week getting more live plants to add to the tank so there's plenty of cover for them and went down today to pick them up.

They are adorable and so tiny and I think I've been glued to the tank most of the day lol I set up a live bloodworm feeder and they found it almost immediately. Four nice fat bellys later they've been exploring and really active.

Firstly here's their home.....65ltr with an Interpet PF3 filter. Two silk plants and the rest are all live.

Great little puffers!

They are amazing fis. I have 3 DP tanks, they are always a pleasure to watch.

Just a note though, looks to me like you may have 4 males or maybe 3 males with 1 female.
Not ideal. You should try to keep a 2f to 1m ratio to ease male agression and territorial issues.

You have one male at least as the eye wrinkles are just starting to show - 2nd photos 2nd puff from the right :D Personally I'd wait til they get a bit bigger before trying to return any as they are still a bit small to properly sex. I'd also add more plants ;)

How gorgeous they are though :D Nice tank too :D

awesome puffers, i love mine, i got so wrapped up i never did a journal :(

if it was me i would add more plants, and as jennybugs said i think you have 1 male and 3 females. but then again i see know stripes down the belly

Thanks everyone :good: Will definately pop out tomorrow for some more plants to fill up the spaces......if I can tear myself away from them lol

I will keep an eye on them as they mature and with all the tanks we have I'm sure I could do some juggling around so that I don't have to take any back. Don't think I could part with any of them now. They are such inquisitive little things and so much fun to watch.....plus of course their amazing cuteness factor

Nice set up and pictures, DPs got to be one of the favourite little fish out there.

Awwww.......................

Lovely setup :good:

Thanks Shroob and iSnail :good:

Haven't been able to find any pond snails yet but have another place to try on Monday. Would it be worth trying to set up a small snail farm or would it not be worth it for just 4 of them?

i have for my snails, ive got a little 1 gallon cube, and i breed snails in it, i leave it in direct sunlight so theres lots of algae they breed like crazy, i feed 2 snails per puffer a week, and i make sure theyre smaller than the eye of the puffer so they can eat them, otherewise i crush them and feed them to my cichlids

I would definitely set one up unless you can source some easily. Snails and live brine shrimps are my DPs' favourite.

Thanks guys that's really helpful :good: I think I will give it a go....much easier to have a source of them at home I think. Do you need to add any food in for them and if so what do you recommend?

I get live bloodworm and brineshrimp delivered weekly so always have that. We also have a baby brine shrimp hatchery....do you think they would eat that or would it be too small?

Never seen blackworms.....where can you get them from? I get my BW from Modaz so will ask if he can get them. I did try some glassworm but they weren't interested.

My DPs take very little interest in bbs. bbs are too small for them to even notice but then my DPs are grown ups

Never seen any live blackworms for sale in any of my LFSs.

Mine eat glass worms but I think they may be a little big for your babies :)
