Just Found A Damselfly Nymph

Anyone else any idea what species this damselfly is?

It's been sunning itself on my lamp for the last 2 days.

Do you know what plants may have introduced it? Knowing the plant will narrow down things a little (not that I'm a damselfly specialist or anything :))

absoulutey great stuff! thanks for sharing the pictures!
now all you need is some fruit flies buzzing around :)
ive got a dragonfly/damselfly ID book-but its for the US/north america. i will give it a shot (some species are found on both sides of the atlantic-worldwide even. ill get back to this thread.
very cool to watch them molt eh? and just to answer some of you initial questions about them, they do hide as nymphs as they are ambush predators. andthe time of development depends on the species. some have a nymph stage of over three years!
very lucky to have it molt and get to actually SEE it happen-let alone get all those great photos. im jealous :)
cheers

Thanks!

It can only have come on: Cryptocoryne Wendtii, Cryptocoryne Willisii, Java Moss, Egeria Densa, Marimo Balls, or Riccia Fluitans. Those are all i have.

It was such a fluke i got to see it all happen, i would have usually been at uni in lectures but i took the day off to revise for an exam the following day. Lucky i spotted it since it wouldn't have been able to get out of the tank with the lid down!

I put it on the filter outlet, lid up, and kept an eye on him with my camera handy!

Still haven't heard back from the British Dragonfly Society...

hard to say WHERE the guy came from if you dont know the source of the plants. doutful they were grown in the UK, probably imported. may be a foreign species. im going to have a look thorugh my book in a while...ill keep you posted
cheers
