Just An Update From Me!

It is a Flame Angel, we all know it's a Flame Angel, and it matches every photo of the Flame Angel on google images, but the guy in the shop has told Lewis it's a Blacktip Reef shark. He's gonna be gutted when he finds it hasn't grown in a years time. Of course I have never seen a juvenille blacktip so that may be the correct colouration.

A Shepards Pygmy Angel - Centropyge shepardi :p

:) Anyone on the coral ID's??

Oh darn, just came back to this post to play and you have told everyone what the little pygmy is

Right, so my guess on the lime/yellow coral: Scieronephthya - Tree coral?

Now the blue one, so you say its not a sponge, so it's a softie, cant be a Gorg surely.........runs off to find Bournman.

Is it a Heliopora?

YES! ;)

I've ID'd it myself so I'm not 100% on the ID. I've found a species that I think its identical to. I'm sure it's not a sponge, and pretty sure it's not a gorg.

Is it a Heliopora?
Don't think so.

I saw an orange/red one on eBay and made me google it when I saw this as they looked the same. ;)

is the blue coral soft or hard?

i ask as the tips look slightly bleached which would say to me its a calcium skeleton thing so not gorg or fan, but it could be a sponge but then it wouldnt be hard.

if you held a gun to my head i would say it, if it was hard, would be stylophora.

if it was soft then i am not sure, probably some variety of sponge. its strange i have this niggling name but i cant seem to recall it.

Sorgan your question leads in a way to a narrowed down clue. Its hard upon touch, and there are no polyps. It has a calcium skeleton i believe (as you say - bleached tips etc). If i am correct its not a LPS, soft, or SPS, more of a inbetweener. Thats a big clue to what i think it is..

Dont think its a Shepards, Its too red/orange like a Flame. Shepards are more orange/yellow

some variety of octocoral? i gotta say that i think its from the Helioporidae family. please enlighten us :)

Was the Angelfish expensive?

it's come out a lot reder than he is the photo, he is more orange, similar to my clowns orange. His shape, and dorsel fins are acurate to that of a shepherds.

he was £68 but i got him cheaper for helping out the bloke in my LFS the other day. I basically watched the shop for an hour so he gave me a load of stuff! :)

I believe its a Lace Coral, but may be wrong. If you google image it they look the identically the same.

Lace Coral is a hydro coral, which is a cross between a soft and a LPS

well i will be damned, ive never seen one of these before! azoox aswell

i know - i saw a fire coral on ebay a while ago, and researched it - by the time i was ready to buy it it had been sold. The one for sale was a frag. Then i saw this fo £35 (i got it free, see above!) and took it home straight away! I'll let you know how it gets on.

Fingers crossed.

A bit off topic but they have had a jellyfish pair for a few months now - very cool to watch. They have them labelled as upside down jellyfish. Dont worry i'm not considering it! :)

well i'll be! I just checked the seller who sold it last time, they have a fire frag again. Here's the link if your interested Sorgan:
