Jen's 90 Gallon Tank

Glad the filter outlet change is working out for you too Jen.

I've posted a reply in the pics forum but needless to say the tank is looking great, well done.

I love the Hydrocotyle verticillata in the foreground. Your wood selection and placement is also excellent.

The whole tank has a very strong jungle theme going on that looks wonderful, I'm sure your fish are very happy.

Such a relief to have clear water at last hey? ;)

You have no idea how glad I am that the green is gone. Once I figured out the problem (too much light, no co2 or ferts - go figure) it was easy to solve.

I'm very glad I decided to carpet the Hydrocotlye verticillata. It's different. I hope that it will grow quickly. I have some stems in there that are larger... alomst 2 inches, so its not all uniform like other carpeting plants. The cories love it, and I'm sure it's a great hiding spot for fry.

I'm very undisciplined when it comes to the EI. All last week i didn't dose at all. I was too lazy. I need to get on a very distinct routine. I dont have to test much, I know the uptake of the plants, it's just actually measuring the stuff out. I think part of the problem is that my life has no set routine. I'm not full time at work, so I get called in whenever they are short staffed. I'm sure that if I was doing the same thing every day it would be much easier to fit it into my day without having to think about it.

I thought I would add a new picture. It's amazing how quickly some of these plants are growing.

It looks amazing...the amazon swords are growing really well. BTW, did you spell copyright wrong? I didn't know there was a w in it, or is it spelled differently in Canada?

Wow.. your tank looks fantastic. The last time i seen it you were fighting the dreaded green water if i remember correctly.

Your tank looks superb

I might have spelled it wrong... I opened up Word to check it, and it had it as Copywright in their disclaimer. I'm a horrid speller, so if anyone knows the propper way of spelling it, or how I can get the little c in the circle, that'd be super.

The amazon is acutally close to being pulled. Every day I have to pull more leaves off. They tend to get bare and wilty. It keeps sending off runners, and I cut them becuase then the leaves get even worse.

Oh yeah... that green water was aweful. It took alot of water changes and practically no light to get rid of it. I also got my ferts and co2 under control... that was the root of the problem.

© oh yeah how cool. you learn something new every day lol

tank looks beautiful jen.

on the sword front have you tried putting root tabs under them. i have had the same problem in the past and a fert stick pushed directly beneath them seems to sort out the lacey leaf type problem.

thats even with a laterite substrate. i think the swords exhaust their laterite much more quickly than the other plants. the fert sticks are just a top up for their huge nutrient appitite.

just a thought

I did a little work in the tank today. Move few plants around, did some trimming - the usual. When I was at my lfs a guy brought in a bucketful of java moss that he said was over running his tank. This store never has any moss, and someone just gave it to them. Within 5 minutes it was all gone. I hope they take a hint and bring some in. lol. Anyway, I was lucky enough to get the last clump and I have added it to the tank! Hooray!

Here's a pic of some of it on my wood. I did put some on another piece, bit its all the same. lol.

I also picked up 2 pretty 'Emerald' Dwarf Gourami. They look more blue than green, which is awesome since blue is my favourite colour, and the colour is so foriegn in the tank that they just pop out at you. They are looking a little dull right now, but im sure thats the shock of the move. I'm still thinking up names.
