Hello, i was wondering if anybody knew if Jellybean Parrot Fish can breed together.
i have a male and a female jellybean parrot and the female is pregnant but i am not sure if my male will be able to fertilize her eggs. can someone help me?

It all depends if you have a dyed blood parrot, or a cross between a blood parrot and a pink convict. If you have the latter, they can probably breed.

If you have a dyed blood parrot, then no. You might also want to read up on dyed fish, if that is what you have, and the methods they use to end up the 'pretty colours'. Not so nice.

I sincerely hope you have the Convict Parrot Cichlids variety :)

Thanks, yes my jellybeans are a mix of pink convicts and a blood parrot, but they are died i have a pink one thats pregnant and a blue one thats a male. my female laid her eggs two days ago, i hope everything works out  do you know how long it will take for the babies to hatch?

MY BABY JELLYBEAN FISH ARE HATCHING AT THIS MINUTE YAYE EVERYTHING WORKED OUT PERFECTLY! :D

True JB parrots are really just balloon pink convicts that have been dyed(although undyed ones are frequently being sold thankfully). So expect them to breed the same way as cons(i.e all the time). Most cichlids eat their first spawn so dont get too disheartened.I had a male JB that bred with a normal striped con female every 2 weeks like clockwork.

OK I'm not sure what has made you decide that the Jellybeans are Convicts but they aren't. They are far too different. And I'm not talking physically. Their personality and behavior is differant. The Convict males are much meaner. In the Jellybeans it's the female that'll give you a run for your money. There are other differances too but I'm not here to debate that. Just needed to throw in that I disagree. Can we agree to disagree on this one?

Now on to the matter at hand. The Jellybeans will usually eat the first few batches of babies. This isn't a big deal they are just playing house and trying to learn how to be parents. I've always left both parents in with no problems after the first few batches. Watch your male though. Sometimes the female will decide she doesn't want him around and will beat him pretty badly. He will more than likely retreat to a corner after about a week and wait for the female to be done with that batch. Don't worry if you see him hanging out in the corner. He's still helping her watch the babies. But he's trying to stay out of the cranky females way. Mine usually come into breeding colors once a month. They don't always breed that often but pretty close to it. You can take the fry out at 4 weeks but I usually watch the female. When she stops trying to keep them all in one place they are ready to go out into other tanks. You'll also notice the male coming closer and closer to the female as the babies reach the age to remove them. They tend to be cave like breeders. They will breed just about anywhere they can find a flat surface but they have a better survival rate if they can get just a little privacy. You'll also need to do frequent water changes as the babies are rather messy. I've been breeding Jellybeans successfully for 5 years now so if you need anything at all just let me know. HTH :D :D

I have kept and bred these fish for a while now and I can assure you they are balloon pink cons.Take a good look at a pink con then an undyed JB and you will see that JB's are just squished up versions on cons.My first JB pair would produce about half JBs and half regular pink cons.My last JB(he passed a few months back)would breed every few weeks with a normal striped con and the fry all turned out normal cons.JB's tend to be a little more docile than cons but its mainly to do with their size, although I have owned one that was pure evil and attacked fish much bigger than him.

I just bought a new male JB the other day :D
