Jd Or Oscar?

Having owned an oscar (and seeing a friends JD) I can say my oscar was definately the most personable.

I'd go with a JD.. The Oscars I've had have been the most boring fish ever.. All they want to do is eat all the time.. I really don't think they're anywhere near as intelligent as JDs..

Just my personal preference though.

oscars win hands down....i love my two....there so funny to watch.....my jack dempsey just sits to her little area and doesnt do that much...she is nice mind

never having an oscar makes me go with a jd. i've heard a lot about oscars but my jd's have lots of personality

I love JDs myself. Oscars just rub me the wrong way... but again, personal preference!

I have them both and I love both of em. They are awesome. My oscar recognizes me, lets me pet him (occasionaly) and it is great fun to see how excited he gets about food, though he has jumped clean out of the tank several times... He has more personality towards me than my Jack Dempsey, but I could watch my Jack for hours, I love how he changes colors when I come to the tank and how he interacts with the other tankmates. He is the smallest by far, but doesn't let himself get to bullied. They are more beautiful than oscars IMO, so all in all they are both awesome fish!

Having owned every fish in question, It really depends on how much time you spend with them. You can have a Oscar in one tank and a JD in another and if you neglect the oscar and spend more time with the JD obviously the JD will be more personable! Both fish are very similar in inteligence and size (for the most part), I guss it just depends on what is more astheticly pleasing

A texas cichlid
Never owned a JD but my texas cichlid was a much better fish then my oscar, great colouring and 5x as fun to watch.
As others have said though oscars are probably the most personable cichlid you can get.
