Hi All,

I've been keeping cichlids for a few years now but mainly of the SA/CA persuasion. I've currently got 3 tanks a rio 400; stocked with ellioti's, severums, rainbow cichlids, clown loaches, a range of barbs and some gouramis, a common plec and a rusty plec, i've got a synodontis somewhere in there too (hardly ever see him)
vision 180; stocked with cardinals, harlequins, discus, gold nugget plec and a bristlenose plec
and a small 2ft used for rearing fry.

When i started keeping fish again a few years ao i wanted to go down the old world cichlid rout but was put off a little by the agression fearing about some of the community stock i had so i bought some ellioti's and then some rainbows and ended up with a load of severums the rest is history.

i bought some discus thinking they'd give me the satisfaction i was looking for but they are so boring and feel like they are more hastle than they are worth...

Anyway that's a bit of background... the purpose of this ramble is i've seen a few tanks recently with mbuna in and this ich of mine has realy got bad again... so not sure what to do, do i get rid of the discus and go for it? or do i get rid of a lot of my stocking from the 400 and move some that i want to keep to the 180 and fill the 400 with malawi's? Any suggestions ideas will be more that welcome...

P.s. if feel free to tell me if i'm not making any sense...

Oh yeah, i forgot to add...

fish i want to keep are a pair of breeding rainbows, a pair of severums as they have just started laying eggs and the ellioti's they're just really starting to colour up so i want to keep them because it feels like my hard work is finally paying off with them, the gold nugget plec (always wanted one so i got one) done and the common plec i've had him since i started keeping fish again so he's untouchable despite being a poo machine

I don't think you would have space to put the fish you want to keep into the 180.

A Malawi setup will definately be alot more active! lol!!

i am running a juwel 180 with an eheim ecco pro external filter and the built in filter.I have 12 malawis ranging from 1"-2".Had this set up for about 6 months and have even added a catfish. Some might say my tank is not adequate but so far so good.

Hey Monty

I had a 40gal Rainbow tank for a few years and happened across a 75gal tank so took the dive into Malawis. They are great  Love em and wished had gone there earlier. Dang buggers are full of life and personality. Had tons of advise on here from a couple others that took away alot of the frustration of who eats who, and who goes well with who. Did alot of research on that subject, makin lists and so on.

I would definately recommend Malawis!

thanks for the encouragement greatwhitenorth. for a small malawi community what would you recommend?

pottsvill, the tanks looks nice but the pics are a little small. once you upload them to image shack on the right hand side of each pic in the grey boxes there is an option to embed image, if you click on that then there is a code to for linking it to a forum if you copy and paste that into your post that should do the trick

is the other one you mentioned Pseudotropheus demasoni? if so i like very much :good:

Hey Monty

The crew i have are 3 electric yellows, 3 bi color peacocks, 2 yellow fin acei, 4 snow whites, 2 red empress and 2 blue dolphins. Planning on a couple yoyo loaches in the near future and may add some more peacocks if go on sale. Lots of caves, caves and more caves; they love em and gives em territory to hunker down in.

Have a good one!

Be mindfull of demansoni! Have to get tank mates that can hold their own with them. Have a read on them first and compatible tank mates.
