so should i switch to tap water along
with seachem flourite
it would make water changes harder,
but if it will make the swords grow better, im all game!!!!

i am also having rummynoses dieng could this be from lack of calcium or flucuating ph, because of the softened water?

Nope, Rummynoses shouldn't be dieing from this. Did you acclimatise them? Ammonia and nitrite are zero?
Use less of the softened house water or carry on what you're doing but dose "GH booster"

i do water changes every 2 days
i have ammonia and nitrite at 0
i was thinking that my dad had a planted tank with the same gravel an undergravel filter
a penguin bio wheel 3.6 wpg !!!!!!!!!!and he used tap!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he also never had fish die
i have a better filter do more water changes, and am having fish die!
so maybe your right tap is my problem
i worried that if i switch to tap right away it might cause a ph swing that would kill my fish.

i have heard that if it is a calcium deficincy, and the problem is solved
the plants will jump right back pretty quick and grow again
ilearned that calcium deficioncy ddoesnt hapen over a long period of time
and will start right away
thats why i think my sword plants did so bad after there first week of being in the tank
they immeditly had the clcium deficioncy
it makes sense because the tank before this i had ihad a red rubin that had very
distorted leaves-calcium deficincy!!!
my dwarf sagitteia has little runners sometimes,
and they are almost totally white!!!! this has to be a sever calcium deficincty

2.6wpg with no CO2 will be a nightmare to keep algae at bay. Swords are capable of growing under much less lighting than that.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I have had swords do well under standard flourecent light, well below a watt per gallon. They like iron...they should love that substrate, but you either have to lower lighting or add co2.

you dony understand the sword is so bdly difformed and twisted and a light color that that this is beyond a light or co2issue

 I'm not even going to delve into why that statement is so absurd.
It's 2.6WPG on a 55gallon right? And no CO2? It's definitely a CO2 issue then.

yeah but my dad grew a beatiful sword under 4.0 wpg with no co2
he used tap
i use soft water
my fish are doing
what leads you away from severe calcium deficioncy in the tank
i have tried a ton of diy co2
and i never worked
in my last tank i had diy co2 and it didint help
my anubias is turnig yellow is getting deformed anubias doesnt need
co2 to look presentable
so your saying if i lower my lighting to below 2.0
the swords will stop being deformed?
i tried that already and i didnt work!!!!!!!!!
no offense radar but id kind of like the impuit of arronnorth

and im kind of sorry radar that we are posting at oppisite times of the day it makes
it kind of annoying

DIY CO2 will never be effective in a 55 gallon...its too unstable...pressurised is your only option, or you can add loads of floating plant

let me re-assure you, aaron would give exactly the same advice as radar!

i dont have the money for co2
so should i lower the lighting?

i dont have the money for co2
so should i lower the lighting?
yeah lower lighting to about 50 watts and you should find with a little NPK and trace dosing, and maybe a bit more iron and magnesium you will find they grow better, also some flourish excel will help too!

so is flourite a good idea im in america so i dont think i ca n get some of those products
should i switch to tap still so i dont have the possible low calcium or flucuating ph?

i would use tap water yes...excel is available in the us as is flourish, nitrogen, phosphourous, pottasium and i think they do a traces...i dont know much about flourite to be honest.

just for my intrest
how did my dad have succcess with his sword
he ddidnt have success with the vals java fern or anubias
but he had good swords

well is ten mm substrate bad?
i dodnt think ive seen a tank on this sight with substrate that big
i just did it because my parents said i shouldnt waste my money on"good" expensive substrate
