Hey All,

Just wondering if anyone has ever had any problems with bringing cories into breeding condition. I have fed many high quality foods such as live blackworms and frozen bloodworms, but my cories don't seem to fatten at all even though there are obvious large fish which would be female. Is it perhaps that the larger cories such as my orange lasers don't develop such a gut as my trilineatus did? Setting up a new cory tank specifically for breeding, 20G which I will divide into two with an open divider such as gutter guard. Hopefully if I can get one lot to breed the others will follow suit. :)

What would be best? a Single Trio of Lasers, 1F 2M or a group of 2 F 4 M. I have 12 orange lasers so I'm not short on cories, just wondering what would be the best size group.

Cheers,
Michael

I would have one big tribe. Corys are happier and more secure in large schools.

Hi Kuhni :)

I would keep the school together. If they are going to breed, it going to be a group activity with all the corys showing interest, even if only a few are involved in the actually mating.

Yeah, I ended up adding the whole group, they seem quite happy and it is lovely to see so many beautiful cories. I hope I can breed them so I can have a school of 25.

You have a group of 25 orange lasers? Or do you want to spawn them to add to the group? As for getting them to spawn, they arent the easiest Corydoras to spawn. Just keep feeding them the live foods and doing the water changes and hopefully they will eventually.

What is your male to female ratio?

I have a group of 12 orange lasers atm, I have an estimated ratio of about 4 Mature Females to 8 Males.
Keep in mind that 1 or 2 males could be juvenile females.

What's the chances they'll do this in a community tank? I have a small group (6) and plan on getting more, but I'm not allowed to set up a breeding tank. I have a small tank suitable for raising the fry, but it's not big enough for conditioning them etc.

That sounds like a pretty good group. Just keep feeding them and hopefully they will spawn for you.

There is really no way to tell. The chances are probably higher they would spawn if they were in a species only tank, but you never know.

PS. Everyone I ordered some new cories :d:D:d:D:d:D:D

5x C49
5x C. Loretoensis
5x C. Blochi

Comes to the grand total of $213
:S

I hope they are worth it :D

Those are some nice and rare cories. I see you like the cories that have spots B)

Please post pictures when they arrive :D

Well it's not really that I like cories with spots. I like all cories! Yet most of the cories on the wholesale list were spotted, except for the barbatus and adolfoi.

I'm saving the barbatus for when i have air con and the adolfoi prices have sky-rocketed atm. 20$ wholesale!

But I did see C. Evelynae for 175$ wholesale ;) that could be an idea.
If only I did not have the marine tank to think of :p

They arrive tomorrow at lunch time :d:D:D

I'm also thinking of perhaps some C. Cervinus.

We always hear that you Aussie blokes can't get good Corys!

But that is a great list of new fish.

Looking forward to happy fish in happy pics.

I'm actually quite surprised at the kind of cories we can get.
Corydoras are an allowable import in australia, but the problem lies in the fact that no countries in South America are allowed exporters.
So this in conjunction with the Freight means we pay through the nose for them.
eg. Barbatus cost 25$ wholesale here for 4.5cm semi-adults.

We don't get the same sort of range as europe and america of course, as our quarantine procedures also add alot in the way of cost.
