Is This The Best I can Do

If you opt for cories, go for corydoras sterbai. They can take the same temperature as bettas, many cories cannot.

Personally, go for a sponge filter. Cheaper, but just as functional. Plus with a betta, the flow is gentle. A HOB may produce too much current for a betta.

All you will need is the sponge, an airline, and an air pump. Get a 20g pump or more, a 20g sponge or more.

Yes it is bigger and cheaper and than stand I chose has multiple shelves in case I get MTS @essjay and it is 20 tall can I keep kuhlis or cories if the betta will allow it. And to try to save money on this setup can I use some flat rocks in my backyard, I can send a picture of needed.
If you can get a 20 long it is a much nicer size IMO. The fish get an extra 6" swimming space (25%) and you don't have to put your hand in so deep to get to the bottom :).
HOB filters usually produce more flow than is needed (or appreciated) by a betta. A simple sponge filter (powered by an air pump) or a small internal filter may be a better bet.

Okay I will go for a sponge filter and try to hide it by putting plants in front of it. And I can not go for a long sadly or a 29 because 20 gallon high is the maximum I can keep. And I probably will go with kuhlis but I love the look of all catfish. But if I can’t get kuhli loaches I will get sterbai cories. Do you guys need a picture of the rocks?

I wouldn't mind seeing the rocks if you want

Here you go @NCaquatics

Just be sure theres no sharp edges to catch fins or scratch the fish, and test with vinegar. If they fizz from the vinegar theyre not good to use

A metal file would be most useful for this, one meant for construction work if you got one.

Male Bettas are not community fish and I would not advise getting one if you intend other fish. While a Betta sometimes works, it usually does not; it is safer to expect a fish will be normal for the species than hope it will be abnormal. And several members have in the past posted that a "peaceful" Betta in with other fish for several weeks suddenly began killing them overnight. Don't risk fish, it is not fair to them and will inevitably cause you grief.

If you are getting a 20g basic/high, I would think you might be happier with a community of small fish, but if you want a solitary Betta, that's OK, up to you. But not both.

@Byron Not even the kuhli loaches? And I could eventually move it to a different tank because the stand has 3 shelves. And if I did that I could put in some of the other fish in I like In the tank.

1. The flex 15g is too small for them
2. All flex's have filter built into them.

I knew someone would say this. And im pretty sure you said what most of everyone was thinking. Thanks for saying it.

How about a 'wild' betta?
B. mahachaiensis (alien betta) is a good beginner 'wild' betta.
They are 'peaceful' too
