Is This Forum Been Ruined By Imature New Users?

24 hours ago, and 18 hours previous to post #77, a topic was started in the mod's section concerning this topic. 6 hours ago I was at work. I'll bet other mods were as well. This is not our full time job.

So it appears members would like to see this run somewhere closer to a medieval convent, where speaking even out of turn is dealt with harshly. We can do that. Few members would like it if we did. Shut up is without a doubt an instant ban. Questioning a moderator's skill in handling a situation can be, I don't know, let's call it a one month ban for the first offense. Bypassing the swear filter is an instant ban, txt spk gets you a month, sure hope a typo doesn't look like txt spk. Incorrect info will get you two weeks, two months, then two years.

A better idea is probably to have the moderators discuss topics like this, leaving them open as Ludwid stated, keeping an eye out for anything that violates the rules, and dealing with it in a more flexible manner. Any time you are dealing with living beings people will get passionate. There will be gray areas; does it break the rules or doesn't it? It is up to the moderators to make that call. Decisions like that are a group decision, so it is not an instant decision. This assures fairness, and the most correct decision possible.

If you feel a report hasn't been handled in a timely manner feel free to contact any mod or admin, or even a few. If you feel some member is giving off the wall information out please do the same.

Im not sure about others but i found that post a little patronising and a little unessersary.

so you think someone called this....."Now get out of my thread maggot, your uneducated ******* isn't welcome here" is exceptable?

Im thinking no... yet it was reported around 24hrs ago.. still there!!! even though a moderator actually posted on the thread itself.... and im sure the poster hasnt even been contacted nor repramanded..... the previous poster didnt actually say anythink about banning anybody to be fair, he was just stating that the report had been made with nothink done about it, has there anythink been done about it?.. has the offending post been removed?.. has the poster had a warning?

If none of the above have been done, isnt what this thread is all about?

Really? This is what my beloved fish forum has become? *shakes head*

I didn't report the whole flippin thread, just one aggressive post! editting one post isn't going to ruin the thread jeez.

Its these kinds of posts that, if left unchecked will just invite others to use the same tones. So if you want the forum to be full of "Shut your Mouth" and the likes of what JenClibee has just refered you to, then fine. But remember that these types of posts offend some people and isn't really a good advertisment for what is the biggest fish forum on the net.

I realise mod positions are difficult at times, i've been one myself, but it appears that there are a number of mods attached to certain sections that dont actually come on line for weeks, sometimes months. And yes i do realise that mods are hard to recruit, but when members are using the correct reporting proceedures you cant have a go at them when nothing is acted on.

I have to agree. I hope calling someone stupid and then telling them their a maggot and their ******** isn't welcome, isn't part of this gray area...

Sorry Gary..... did'nt realise that you would perceive this as "having a go at you" it was not my intention..... I will revisit the topic and remove the offending post.

OK... done.... 4 (aggressive)?? posts were removed from the topic.

It's definitely not welcome nor allowed. We will clean up any of it that we find (actually need to clean this thread up....again). This is a fmaily forum with a huge number of members under the age of 16 and we want to keep it that way. As mentioned though, we all have jobs and lives. My PC is almost never turned off so I'm sure that probably 99% of the time it shows that I'm online. I don't live in front of this computer on TFF though. I saw the post gary1990 mentioned when I came on about 30 minutes ago when I started reading through this thread and went straight to have a read and as Ludwig mentioned, several posts have been removed.

Personally the thing that i find objectionable is the acronyms used instead of swearing, or the use of #### etc...

Actually, when you see #### come up, it is because someone has typed in a word that was blocked by the swear filter.

IMHO..... this thread (thanks JenCliBee for posting) is borderline stuff, BUT... if everyone can just remain rational and not attack persons or use uppercase or "French"...... (groundrules)....... a lot of the pressing issues can be addressed or (alternatively) explained.....

I have no mandate, but on behalf of my colleagues,...... I take the liberty to call a truce to general discussion for (at least) a limited period..... to publically view (and discuss) any suggestions and/or gripes you may want to bring to the attention of the mods...... it will be listed and discussed (in camera) afterwards.

ps..... this being your topic JenCliBee...... I'm sure this is (more or less) what you had in mind & won't see it as hijacking????......

Not at all mate, bringing it to the moderators attention to be discussed and so others could get there views across without the thread been closed was my intentions :), im glad it has gotten the reaction it has and hopefully a better approach to the things that are referred to will be done :)

Btw Ludwig, you are a top man, so none aggressive, your approach is so endearing and polite :), great choice to be picked as a mod :good:

The link was just published..... I'm sure corrective action is in progress as we speak...... give 5 minutes.... and we'll have feedback.

You posted on the thread, so would have read it anyways but yet still didnt feel the need to remove it?... and not to mention it was reported by more than 1 member.

LINK!!!

Thank you!

Just because Tolak posted on a thread doesn't me he scanned every line of text..

Exactly. I received a report at the same time as post #25 in that topic. That report was not from you, and being at work at the time there is no way I could have responded, or done anything about it. Before I received a report you seem to have reported it at post #15. That is when backing off is usually the best idea, if you have reported a situation it is obviously because the assistance of a moderator is needed. Yet you continued to post in that topic for nearly 3 hours, 12 posts if my count is correct. At the same time you were posting on this topic, back & forth between the two.

A mature person would have stepped back from the reported topic, rather than in many ways adding fuel to the fire.

Now, let's keep this sensible, within the forum rules, and we may all get something accomplished. If this topic ends up having to be closed it will end up with less progress being made with some valid issues members have raised concerning this forum.
