Is This Forum Been Ruined By Imature New Users?

Jenclibee, you know my feelings on this ;) as do several other members. It seems its ok for these 'new' members to even 'abuse' the members who are trying to help them, even going so far as to post things intentionally to get a rise from certain members, using their 'name' in the posts, all ignored by the Mods, but the instant the 'older' member retailiates, hey presto, they get a warning, a ban, etc, whilst the 'new' member merrily carries on. Yes, we can choose to ignore them, dont have to read the posts etc, but it becomes difficult when they are posting 100 x a day the same cr*p over and over. Nuff said. :D

It's not the asking for advice on similar topics that is a problem, it is the number of noobs who ask and then completely disregard the advice given - and then ask again and again until one person says what they want to hear.

Noobs are always welcome - weren't we all new once? It's the small percentage of people who are down right ignorant that are frustrating people.

Agree.

sounds familiar
i say just ignore the ones that are purely here to get a rise out of us and carry on being as superb with our friendly advice and attitudes that we usually are ,if we told people what they wanted to hear we`d all be letting ourselves down, lets face it the ones that dont take the advice wont be around for long anyway :/ which is sad as its a fab hobby, but its life people come and go and we (i) should learn not to take random annoyance personally :)

lovely to see you Andywg.. even if it is with a daft picture

seconded [thirded?] :p

Pretty much as the titel says, who is getting a little fed up of it, new users coming in with arrogance and blantant disregard for fish, and the mods are letting them do it, even though various reports from various members have been made.

Few opinions on the matter or is it just me that thinks it?

My opinions of you are immature, but I do not go around making threads about it. If you do not like people, avoid them. You are behind a computer you don't need to reply to their threads, or even talk to them.

You know i was waiting for you to reply, and knew how predictable you are with a direct dig, many memebrs on this thread have commented... and it seems only you have gotten personal.. apart from andy (no real suprise there), it says alot.

You also made a second comment just after again just have a dig at 1 commnet directly lol

Immature m8 carry on, but in a sense you have just confirmed the thread and what it stands for all by your self lol, and you call me immature... a comment direct about what you think is what was aksed for but yet again ... and i say yet again becasue you have been warned so many times about it ....you just have to become personal.

I appologise to the noob's, becasue its obviously not just 'CERTAIN' new members that have this blatant disregard for other memebers of this forum but instead would just rather post to get a rise and casue trouble... MINX.. you have it spot on there hun :)

"I must admit....it seems that the focus is more on people filling out forms to sell items than mods actually responding to and addressing issues. That said, I wouldn't fancy being a mod on this site
I take the blame for the form filling idea, its essential along with the photographs. and will become more apparent why it was done at a later date as we seek to implement future enhancements.

ATB
C"

Its not the forms as such but the fact that some mods seem more interested in ensuring the forms are filled that dealing with arguments and other problematic posts etc

ive been called a "troll" amongst other things on here.

the problem like any other forum is there is a "select group" that just moan and are generaly think there higher than everyone else!!

i class myself as a "n00b" as ive only been on here a few months,so do you hate me cheesy feet?

everyone was a noob at 1 point!!

ive said some things on here, that some people dont like, and admitidly ive well over reacted aswell, but unfortunatly thats forums for you!!

theres a select few on here that i dont particualy agree with, but its only a forum, thats how i look at it.

but on the flip side, ive made a few good friends on here that i would go out of my way to help.

I was a little amused to read thought this. Not because I don't think there are some valid points, but because every year or so something similar to this comes up. TBH nothing has changed here since I started on TFF, sure people have come and gone but it seems we always have rude obnoxious people who can't take advice, and there's always someone complaining about a mod or two. Just try to remember that when you have so many different personalities from many different places there are going to be clashes, and when you are passionate about a hobby it will get nastier.

Sure I've had people that i would love to reach through the computer and smack until they get it or until my arm gets tired  , but you can't force someone to do what you want or what is right. Some people just have to learn the hard way unfortunately often to the detriment of their fish.

As for the ones who lower themselves to name calling, ignore them, I know others have said to do that as well, but IME those kind of people don't learn from being chastised or even threatened. They may start up multiple threads but if they are universally ignored they'll eventually give up. I try to find the humor in the situation, have you ever noticed how insults are usually misspelled and how horrible the grammar is? What sad little people, not only are they so incapable of handling criticism that they resort to personal insults, but they have to go through life with horrible grammar too. :hey:

I guess what I'm trying to say is enjoy life, this is a great forum and it's not worth letting the little people get you down. :good: -Dawn

Just my two cents to add! I love this forum I really do, I felt abit lonely on the fish side, every one listens but with that blank "I dont know what you are talking about stare" lol. I have learnt and got much valuable information from here so much so I feel I can pass it on. It is frustrating with trolls, I have had a run in with a few and ended up reporting. It is bad as it has put some new members off so much so I am in correspondence with a couple through PMs. It is like any forum though, you will always get them and as long as there are checks in place and the more abusive ones are nudged aside or ignored then we all should be fine :)

It is also hard not to rise to it, especially when you know that is exactly what they are trying to do. Ones that call for information and ignore, it is sad and you do want to give them a smack, but all we can do is provide the correct information and hope it seeps into their conscience (I have had a smug moment recently with this lol. As for the trolls, well try and ignore them (I am certianly going to or at least keep my end polite).I want to be here for the newcomers and make sure they got the great start and advice that I did when I first started here. Keep up the good work everyone!

My thoughts and advice when I am on here is: Treat others how you want to be treated.

Hope not preaching too much, sorry I rambled abit :)

And yet he makes the most salient point: this is the internet. It is not real life. To misquote CFC, if what people write on this forum really gets you this upset, how on earth do you cope in real life?

And as others have noted, these threads come up with tedious regularity. I assume one requesting general chat and another for some form of thanking/respect system will soon be posted as well...

Being a mod is quite a thankless task, I am an administrator of a football forum and a mod on various other sites, none of them quite as big as this one, and it's not easy to find time to cover everything as it happens. With this site its probably even harder as it has a huge membership. I think the mods on here do a good job by and large. Things will slip through the net from time to time as it does in any walk of life. A forum by definition is a place to talk and will always attract idiots whatever the subject of discussion is. Kids are bored and copy all sorts of things from You Tube like feeding pet mice to Oscars to name just one. Then they come on here and brag about it. I just don't think that most of the mods on here can do any more than they are doing. Its time given freely by a person who wants the site to be as enjoyable as we its members do. Just my tuppence worth.

As has already been mentioned, it's not really new members that are a problem. It's more the ones that ignore advice or troll. They do it for one of two reasons. 1) they are young (maybe not) and hardheaded and no matter what you say, they won't listen or 2) they are here to troll and see what kind of responses they can get in which case, arguing is just giving them what they want.

In either of these 2 cases, the best response is no response. We should all make an effort to help newbies but as soon as it becomes evident that they aren't going to listen or are probably just trolling, stop posting on their threads. Once they realize that they aren't getting the advice they need because of their attitude, they will move on or start to listen. And if they're a troll, when the fish don't bite, they'll move on.

And to agree with Andy, this is a fish forum. It's not life or death. There are certainly more important things for all of us to worry about than whether someone on here listens to what we have to say.

im new but ive always been polite , i may ask some daft questions but that comes with being new to the hobby

Well i'm new.

Personally i don't like how old existing members put tags on new members or 'noobs' and sort of automatically assume they arn't worth the time of day.

I think mark1979 has said it.

But yeah obviously there are going to be some loonies out there, it's true to forums as it is the world.
